Are we doing Jimmy Saville jokes....??
42 Answers
I am disgusted if the stories about Saville are true, I admit I have not read everything about the allegations though
However is it acceptable to find a few jokes amusing or would I be chastised for even thinking it??

But if - as is far morel likely, your jokes would suit close friends with a similar sense of humour, then tell it to them, and leave them out of your AB postings.

Humour is often a way of releasing the tension caused by an upsetting situation.
That is why anyone in a profession dealing with crime and death usually develops a highly developed sense of back humour which gets like-minded souls through situations that would have the rest of us in a weeping heap on the floor.
The other strand to humour is the type of 'topical' joke that used to be spread by word-of-mouth, and now is diseminated by modern media.
The difference is - word of mouth usually involved a social filter, such as the one I mentioned above, but the internet is pervasive, and not everyone who appreciates the humour in situations is able to avoid exposure.
I was a big fan of Saville, I drank my tea out of a JS mug, but as of yesterday, my tea is coming out of a mug with red and white stripes on it - it's all about adjusting to your surroundings, and a degree of sensitivity about friends and colleagues.
NB - utter lack of empathy and a rock-solid sense of self-importance and self-obsession is often evidenced by people accusing the unamused of having no sense of humour. See under 'Boyle - F'.

jd ...
For all of his life, we took Jimmy Savile seriously. He was a fund raiser, and a do gooder.
Now (shoot me for my opinion!) he deserves nothing other than ridicule, lampooning and mockery, for the absurd and ridiculous travesty of a man that he turned out to be.
In the old days, he would have been put in stocks, and we could pelt him with mouldy vegetables. In modern times, he becomes the butt of jokes.
I don't think there is any level on which the name of Jimmy Savile deserves dignity. He should become the butt of a million jokes.
However ...
There is also a view that says if you mock the offender, then you have no sensitivity for the victims.
So, on balance ... even though, like me and (mathematically extrapolating the geometric multiplication of forwarded texts and emails), probably about ten million others, you have been bombarded with Jimmy Savile jokes (I just got the one about the McSavile burger) ... I would probably not share them on AB.
