Which modern phrases annoy you the most. I personally can't stand it when people say "simples" like that meerkat advert a few years back or "end of" when discussing something... I know its petty but what annoys you?

'at the minute' or in old fashioned English 'now' which is a little shorter.
'At the top of the hour'
place the hand up to the speaker's face for it to be talked to

'literally' as in 'I was literally driving along the road when....'
Talk to the hand. How rude. Presumably the person saying it does not have the courage to say, " Shut up."
Chillax.....

Let's touch base

Are you busy and/or Have you got a minute? (because they can see you're not sitting there bored and you know it will take longer)
"have a nice day" makes me scream inwardly. it used to be confined largely to america but the uk has become infected now. aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!
"How are yeee?" (the 'e's are like a cross between "oo" and "ee") normally a habit of young women, this always grates with me. It's as if they're self conscious saying "you", maybe because they think it sounds too direct.
Another one is "yourself" as in "Obviously we'll find a phone which is right for YOURSELF", presumably said for similar reasons. I always feel like saying "..my what?"
The phrase 'at the end of the day' used to makes me cringe so much . thankfully it is dying out a bit now but it seemed like at one time i couldn't go 10 minutes without hearing someone say it to stress their point.
my current pet hate is when people say 'do you know what I mean' after every other sentence. in my head i'm shouting 'yes of course i do!'
Another similar expression to "at the end of the day" that I've heard being used repeatedly by one or two individuals is "not being funny or anything but..."
Nobody's mentioned "..and he turned round and said." "so I turned round and said" - who are all the rotating people?
Similarly, I've noticed that when certain people relate an incident, they tell it in the present tense "..so I'm walking down the road, right, and I've seen this great big juggernaut coming round the corner, and not being funny or nothing but it's shedding its load, right, all over the pavement..."
Similarly, football commentator tense: 'So he's run up the wing, right, and he's gone, woah, can't pass back to the goalie as usual, so he's crossed it to midfield and carried on in this grammatically unfeasible manner until the OED imploded. Class.'
And the same footie commentator: 'That's a LONG ball'.
And
'He passed it forward when he could have done more with a SQUARE ball'. Really?
"Welcome *ALONG*".
Who in the name of Jehosaphat suddenly declared this to be the thing to say ?
' get in' that used to be what starsky said to hutch.
"I was like..".
or "I mean I was like"
either you were or were not!!!
But I don't "like" it.
I'll get back to you on that one but it'll have to be a slow burner 'cos I'm 24/7 365 this week. Ciao
Everything is now "Images" never photos or Films.
