What is the meaning of "without missing a stride" in the following sentence?

 

Dell dashed by and somehow managed to refill both coffee cups and pat Ray on the shoulder without missing a stride.

Normally, to do all those things (refill cups and pat Ray) you'd have to stop walking; but 'without missing a stride' means Dell did it and kept walking at the same time. A stride is a one of the steps you take when you walk.
