I went to the area drill competition with the cadets after getting through the district level of the competition. I was in a squad of 5, doing a colour party display, which is very similar to this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62ZleSAJCwE except the three rifles are a different model.
We didn't come first or second and hearing about what the ex district officer said, it doesn't sound as if we came last, hopefully I'll find out tomorrow night.
Drius it was ok except for being up at stupid o'clock in the morning. By half seven, we were up dressed, had breakfast, everything was packed into the buses and our rooms were tidy.
It was in Beckingham army base in Lincolnshire. In our dorm were all of us east anglia girls plus some marine cadets from Cambridgeshire i think (our disrict doesn't have any marine cadets).
mammy, I'm 17, so that was my last drill competition, but next year maybe i'll be helping to train the younger one's up for it.
Yep eye . . . part of the marks you gain is from how good your uniform is, but apparantly working out the overall marks is really complicated. Plus as a cadet it's hard to judge soemtime where you came, although there were at least one other team that was shocking, and with the comment made by our officers i don't think we came last.
Also with the judging it to try and work out where we've come ourselves is hard seeing as we don' know how badly they mark you down for certain mistakes ie going over the time limit, compared to going outside the designated area (which is a bad thing to do aswell)
That isn't me tigger, that's jsut the routine we did, and probably better than ours. You go through three stages (if you win the first two). The first is district, in mine (east anglia, which is really most of suffolk and norfolk) there are seven units, from seven towns. We got through that bit, and went onto the area competition, representing our unit and district. There are seven areas in the whole of great britain and i went to the Eastern area competiition this weekend. The squad on the clip got through this stage aswell hrough to the national compeition.
Put it this way, if your drill was anywhere as slick as that clip on YouTube, you definitely should be nowhere near last.
All you can do is your best, and then it's in the laps of the Gods, i.e. judges? Then, even if you haven't won, you at least know that you gave it your best shot, and there's no shame in that.
Prepare to be disappointed, then if it's good news, it's a bonus, innit?
7.30 up and dusted -good discipline have to say.You must be tired -had a look at the you tube -well done if thats what youre achieving along with your studies.
Hope you had a laugh with the other Sea Cadets as well.
Did you see I posted a link for you on Friday night -a Planet Earth one -just look back on one of your threads.Thought of you when we watched it (had it recorded)-was very good.
Well like i said we didn't come first second and probably not last.
That routine was how it was meant to go, although ours wasn't perfect, while i was stood watching the others marching round I sport a few mistakes such as not marching in time and the flag bearer moved before being told to at one point.
Hopefully I'll find out tonight, aswell as hopefully getting an award or two, AND we have to do that routine again, but infront of all the people we know!
Dris I can cope with that kinda thing occaisionally but i couldn't be up before 7am every day.
