I would like to write this wording on to a card, but in Welsh. Please can anyone tell me what the welsh wording for 'No.1 Grandad' or 'Best Grandad' would be, please? I'm not Welsh and don't speak it, so I don't want to get it worng and offend anyone! Thanks.

Hope these help, my Welsh spoken isn't as good as my written. However, just phoned a friend and confirmed all these as right. I do hope that helps you. ca da ddiwrnod (have a good day)
Ray
ddiolch 'ch Ray translates as thank you Ray
or you could simply try 'thanks'

hi helen, are you wanting north or south wales translation? the southerners have a slightly different vocab

Thank you to Ray for all your posts. Thank you also to Steve - have lots to go at now!
jb190281 - I didn't realise that there were different translations! Are the wordings by Ray and Steve north or south. Would quite like to be aware of both if that were possible?
no disrespect to ray, but i felt steve's translations were more accurate. in the north, grandad would be taid (most probably anyway), whereas in the south, it would be tad-cu
Double check your translation before you use it, look what can go wrong:

Sorry, i forgot to give you the full answer!!

i would put "taid(or)tad-cu gorau (best)"

are you looking to put this on a fathers day card? if so, you could also add "Sul y tadau hapus" which literally translates to "happy fathers sunday"

Tee hee, thank you Hopkirk! That was funny! :)

jb190281 - thanks for your reply, so just so I'm sure I have got it right, for 'Best Grandad' I could write either 'taid gorau' or 'tad-cu gorau' (does it have to have the hyphen, as someone told me that you could use it or not and it would mean the same?) or 'Nhaid Gorau'
with or without hyphen is fine

That's brill, thank you so much, jb190281, and everyone else who was kind enough to respond.
This is another example of translation problems which happened here in Ireland !
