We've been given some venison, (about 4lbs) and could do with some ideas on how to cook, it recipes for two people. We've checked on line and most recipes recommend long, slow cooked casseroles etc but personal experience and recipes for cooking venison would be appreciated.

Hi I live in Finland and we eat deer a lot it depends on which cut you have ! Do you know or can you find out ? The reason why most recipes tell you to cook it for a long time is that most times 'ordinary ' people only get the cheaper cuts as the hunter keeps the more expensive ones ,one more fact is that deer is has very little fat so is not so good for example on a bar-b-que as it ends up too dry so you need some fat for it to cook it is common to wrap bacon around or over the top to give it some moisture if you post a reply I will give you a recipe for the cut you have

Thanks for your replies,I don't know what cut it is espookid, as it was given to me already sliced and diced, and due to th Gun and Hunting laws here in the U.K.I suspect that it came from a, as we say here "A man down the Pub".That link tamborine was to one of the recipes we'd come across and I must admit it does look good.

I had venison once in Bar Epernay in the Mailbox. Fillet of Venison on a pink peppercorn mash with a red wine and lavender jus. But I've never cooked it.
