Hello! Sounds like a lovely plant. Water with rainwater, keeping the plant just moist until spring when you can increase the amount of water. Possibly you know that garden centers sell small tubs of a fertiliser for citrus plants. there are two tubs, one to use in the winter and one in the summer, you just use a small amount when you water the plant. Hope you'll enjoy your plant for many years.
My lemon tree is outside and has been for about 3 years with no problems.. in the summer I water every day and in the winter it stays quite moist regardless... so I dont water very much in the winter as it is getting loads of rain at the moment...the snow at the week-end doesn't seem to have bothered it either..
