UK-- A pub has been criticised for selling a dish called 'Barrymore Pie - Faggots swimming in gravy'.

The name refers to the death of Stuart Lubbock, found drowned in the pool at Michael Barrymore's home in 2001, reports the Mirror.

Landlord Peter Towler says he will not bow to complaints from people offended.

He insisted: "These people say this is not funny but their behaviour is turning it into a joke. I am sorry that they are upset but I will not be bullied.

"I will not bow to this pressure. I sell about 100 Barrymore Pies a week. I suppose I could change its name to Politically Correct Pie."

The dish is on the menu with Wham, Bam, Thank You Lamb and Henpecked Chicken pie at Mad O'Rourkes in Tipton, West Midlands.

Customer Karina Thompson said: "I was appalled. It's a cheap joke, not funny, with offensive language. Faggot is a pejorative term for a gay man. I've written to complain."

And Outrage! campaigner Peter Tatchell said: "It's a joke in bad taste."

Forgot to add the question, would you stay for something to eat here, or go somewhere with errmmm a more tactfully descriptive menu?
Is the place clean? Is the food good? If so then I'd eat there. What's in a name?
Karina Thompson is probably either a politically correct dyed in the wool lesbo or a total sad act.
Faggot ~ A faggot is a kind of meatball, a traditional dish in the UK, especially the southwest of England, Wales, and the Black Country. It is made from unwanted meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork. A faggot is traditionally made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes breadcrumbs. The mixture is shaped in the hand into balls, wrapped round with "caul" (a membrane from the pig's abdomen), and baked. Mmmmm tasty!!! LOL

Not very nice, very inappropiate as this case is still going on. I shall give that pub amiss.
Sounds like my type of pub, Peter Tatchell is a joke in bad taste,
I'd eat there. I like politically incorrect jokes!
yea,he could add long drop pie ,for saddam, jfk brains in a cadilac sauce, one pill to many for marilyn moroe, who the fcuk fired that gun soup for alan ladd, all over the state mince sandwich for the shuttle explosion, etc.
What a fantastic joke!

Perhaps he could think up something celebrating the recent gun murders of those three kids in South London...

Yes, we know what a culinary faggot is, but we also know what the 'other' meaning is.

I hope bad things happen to him.

Very bad things.
Love the Landlords sense of humour, yes, i'd eat there, with relish.
The guy sounds like a homphobic w*nker, frankly.
Brilliant, Mad O'rourkes is now on my list of places to go.

Barrymore pie sounds good to me

how predictale? I personally love faggots in gravy and get quite excited when I see them on a pub menu, or even just to find a chippy that still does them but I couldn't do it.
Brilliant. I think we need more people like Peter Towler. A man with a sense of humour and not afraid to make a stand against the nonsense of so called political correctnes. I actually hate that term because it infers that those who advocate it are indeed correct.

Worse than this though are those who would wish arm to someone they don't even know. Sp1814, hang your head in shame. That statement of yours makes you worse than you perceive Mr. Towler to be.

Perhaps his menu should now include 'Black puddings in tomato sauce'.
at the end of the day someone has lost a son
Yeah, and spare a thought for all those poor piggies who lost their lives to provide the faggots.
yes the poor little porkers lol
So he is using a derogatory word for a gay - ie faggot

and he is joking about the death of a person.

Whilst I did smirk when I read the above, I think that it is fine to say the joke in private but it is not suitable for public. I have heard plenty of tasteless jokes but I wouldn't expect to go into a pub and see them written on a wall.

Lets face it - the landlord is only doing this for publicity (and it's working)
once again i agree with you oneyedvic this is becoming a bit of a habit lol
I'm with oneyedvic on this one, 100%.
I think its GREAT, and gread PR for the Bar!! ha ha ha the joke is on the people who have made such a fuss and provided all this free publicity!! ha ha ha
I dont like that word at all so if I saw it on a menu where I was dining I'd be thoroughly disgusted and walk out and never go back
