Can anyone tell me if you can learn to drive in your own car? I mean with an instructor instead of a mate/family?

Yes, you can, Thats what i did. Just tell the instructor that that is what you want to do and it shouldn't be a problem. Only thing is tho that in an instructers car, they have duel control, which you wont have in your car. So he may suggest that you have a few lessons in his car until you know what you are doing more, before moving on to your own car.
But do you get to do the test in your own car??
yes, though as starry said, have a few in his first until you master the basics.

some instructors may refuse to go out in your car at least until they have assessed your level of ability
yes, 4get, i am doing mine tomorrow in mine - you need to provide a little mirror for him to use, and sign a form for insurance and mot, and have your certificates with you.

Good luck joko.
dee5 - I passed my test in my own car last month, but I did have lessons in an instructor's car first. Having said that, I learnt in an instructor's car for years with little progress, then as soon as I got my own car in October and switched to that, I had more confidence being in my own car, and I came on in leaps and bounds. If you take your test in your own car, it must be roadworthy and insured. You also need to have front headrests on your car or they wont let you take the test. You also need a little mirror for the instructor to use, and you can buy ones with suction caps on from Halfords for about a fiver.
