how do i get to sleep?

hi all hope every one is well. i witnessed an awful accident on the M25 and since then every time i close my eyes i see the body i have not been able to sleep since and i am so tired but cant get this awful image out off my head, any ideas please?

Thats a dreadful thing to see. But unfortunately the only help you can get is counselling/therapy from a specialist. It may help speaking to us friendly lot on here but I doubt we can help you sleep.
It's a bit silly, but I have recently had lots of trouble getting to sleep, and I've been reading books I loved as akid, Famous five and the like.
Soon sends me off with happy thoughts.
what a dreadful thinf to see, you sound traumatised by it which is understandable. a visit to your g p would be a good place to start you will kust become so exhausted good luck

oh how awful for you, you may be suffering post sress disorder i think thats what they call i think it would be best for you to vist your gp and he maybe able to give you somthing to help and may get a relaxation tape to linsten to, good luck
sorry to hear this loopy it is a very hard thing to come to terms with.
im a firefighter and things such as this are come across quite often the best way i have felt to deal with it is to talk about it the doc is very much a last resort as pills ect can lead to the wrong solution speak to someone who you can confide in it does help eventually and be happy in the knowledge that there was absolutetly nothing you could have done to change the situation

thank you every one i read at night anyway, but last night i kept reading all night im in a bit of a vicious circle where i now dont want to sleep because i dont want to keep seeing a dead body, plus the questions in my head like did he have a family, was it instant keep going round and round in my head, im fine in the day because i can keep busy but its the nights where my mind goes in to over drive. i think a trip to the docs is on the cards.
i have trouble sleeping at night generally - mum bought me a lavender sleep kit.. comes with eye mask, lavender spray (to put on ur pillow) as well as a sort of balm which u should massge onto ur temples just before u go to sleep...Its really good - also tells u to just take deep breaths too.

So maybe invest in some lavender....

How long ago is this loopy as the type of thing you are describing is very common up to about 10 days after a highly shocking incident. After that it should start to fade naturally and you should be able to sleep better, and when you do sleep it'll be one of those really wonderful deep sleeps that really restore you?
If it goes on for longer than that or this event is a while ago now then you need to think about seeing a Dr.
Exercise is very good for raising endorphin levels and will help you recover more quickly, so as it's also a relaxing thing try swimming every day.
loopyc, you are under a lot of pressure at the moment with other stuff so this accident may have affected you even more in your stressed situation.
Have you tried any herbal sleeping remedies. You will make yourself very ill in a short space of time if youre deprived of sleep. Maybe your GP could prescribe a very mild sleeping tablet
fms is right. The best way to deal with such things as seeing accidents is to keep talking about it rather than bottling it up.

thank you nox it was only a couple of days ago but as you can imagine im exhusted now, and im my own worst enemy instead of thinking of myself im thinking off his family how their coping if he had kids etc, i just need to switch off!

i really sympathise with you , as I have not only witnessed an horric accident but have also been involved in one, luckily I'm still a live, but it did take a long time to get over it. If you don't want to try drugs or the doctor's try taking St John's Wort every day, which is sometimes used for anti depression, but it is also used for calming, it works I've given it to my husband who is normally a buzzing person, also drink a few cups of camomile tea during the day and one about an hour or so before bed, it relaxes you and makes you feel naturally sleepy, as for the dreams they will go, and believe it or not the sooner you get some proper sleep the quicker they will go, as for now you're not allowing yourself to discharge teh days events in REM. Trust yourself, it's hard, but it wasn't you in the accident, and it wasn't your fault, you didn't know them so what you saw was just a body and nothing more, the person had gone and just left a shell. It sounds awful but that's how you will have to see it. You are a caring person obviously otherwise you wouldn't be taking this so hard. I;ve come out of it and so can you, and all here will be with all the way. Godd luck and take care

try listening to audio books while you drop off, i find comedy episodes or stand up best as if you miss a bit you don't lose the plot.

though a story will force you to concentrate on it a bit more
