What are your views on these dating evenings? My mum has been single for quite a few years and doesn't drink so finds it hard to meet people. I would love her to meet a nice man to spend some time with. I was thinking of joining one of these dating agency thingies with her, at the least it would be a laugh!
Does anyone have any experiences with these sorts of things or do you also have a relative who is in the same boat?

I,ve never experienced a speed dating evening, but people who have been have said its more of a laugh than anything, i personally don't believe talking at 100mph to someone for 2 mintues {not sure how long you get} is the answer to a long lasting loving relationship, agreed you might catch someones eye, but that is more than likely a sexual/lust thing, but who am i to say, at least your trying to help/please your mum.

Ps, what does your mum think about speed dating, and are you just feeling sorry for your mum ie she might be happy being single
Speed dating evenings are great fun, I've only been to one, its was a great laugh, dating agencies have lost most of the stigma they used to have. Safety is always a very important issue here, ensure that any meeting is in a very public place, a pub maybe, it may even be a good idea for one of you to be in a different part of the Pub, just to make sure all is dandy.

I've been to a speed dating event, and tonight I'm off to a lock and key party, organised by the same company. It's a huge laugh! I am actually new to the area where these things are held, and don't know anyone, so I go on my own. They are always held at the same venue (a local pub) so it's quite safe.

When I went speed dating, I asked friends what I should say, or what questions I should ask, and they came up with quite a few good suggestions. Tonights party will be different because rather than sitting at a table for a series of three minute 'dates', it's up to the attendees to mingle. The ladies are given a lock, and the guys a key. You have to find the person whose key fits your lock and take it from there. You are free to flirt with anyone, even if their key doesn't fit!

I'm not entirely sure these are the places to find true love, but it's a good night out, and all my work colleagues are dying to hear my stories tomorrow.

Hi Geordie. Where would I find such nights? I'de be interested in going along to something like that rather than speed dating? I'm in the Glasgow area??
Pinkie - I found the lock and key party advertised in my local free paper. It's organised by a firm called Two's Company. I live in Essex, so I don't know if they are just local to me. It might be worthwhile googling speed dating and see what comes up. I did that for London events, and that's when I first heard about lock and key parties. Good luck finding something - you'll have a great time if you do!
