The Statue of Liberty as it is just so iconic. When I flew to New York last year we could see it from the plane which was just so exciting.

BTW Your question should read - If you WERE only allowed.... .....Sorry!

I live in NYC and would highly recommend Ellis Island. It is just such a wonderful place to learn the history of NY and of immigration to America. It is on the same ferry trip that stops at the Statue of Liberty, so you can do both in one day!

I guess after the twin towers attack ground zero would be a very moving place to visit.
Empire State Building. More fun than the Statue of Liberty
Empire state building at night,I shall never forget the view from the top, really special

Yeah I've been at the top of the Empire State building at night, fantasic, I've never been in an elevator that went so fast.

Try seeing Times Square at night!!!!!!!!!!

having been to New york many times its difficult to decide. agree with all the answers, and it was very moving to see ground zero and all the tributes when I visited in 2002, However St Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Ave is very peaceful and a warm welcome, lovely masses, from the roof hang cardianals hat I am sure many miss these, I asked a guide and he said they no longer hang up the hats when a cardinal dies, you would never believe once inside you are on the busy 5th Ave as calm inside, as anyone who knows NYC will be aware of the constant noise of traffic on 5th Ave , Also a must has to be Grand Central station.

definately empire state building but at night, it is amazing.
