I don't see any justification in having child benefit for more than one child. It's not society's responsibility to fund an individual's breeding. But it seems benevolent enough to help a family who can not afford offspring, to have one. If in that state they probably qualify for other help in the welfare safety net anyway, which should cover most other...

Yes it's perfectly fair and right.

Only the comfortably off (can afford) and the very poor (paid for by benefits) can afford to have larger families innit. 2 kids is the norm I think.

///why keep having children///

Because the Pope says so - contraception is evil.

No mention of the father of her five children - does he not contribute anything?

I didn't even realise there was already a 2 child cap. No, I don't understand having more children if you know that no more support is coming, and income is low. I sympathise with their struggle, but.....

One said the father doesn't contribute anything.

Why don't they give me benefits for my dogs?  If I want dogs I have to pay for them.  Should be the same with children, only have them if you can afford to.  Why should working tax payers contribute to other people's children?

Mybe I'm just boring, don't answer that:0) but we thought for some time before we had our first never mind just diving into the deep end. It all worked out fine, so 2 years later we decided the fisrt one needed a little sister, and we could re- use all the gear we had for the second one, all went fine again. Then I had the chop end of anymore. Shame that councils decided that unless you had x amount of kids you were at the back of the waiting list, the latter was a mistake in my view. Not sure if that policy still stands.

It's fair and right, why should we all pay for the baby farms? There is no shortage of people.

At least three of her children were born after 2017, so she's got no excuse to whine about it.

It's a case of, I want what I want, in this case a lot of kids, but I want someone else to pay for them.

Look on the bright side, there is no cap on banker’s bonuses.

Then perhaps some of these poor women should try to latch themselves on to a rich banker to help with their costs. Better still, trace the father(s) of their children and get them to shell out.

iv heard some say, im entitled to have as many as i want, it's my right, and so it goes on...oh we have to use foodbanks, but have mobile phones games consoles giant tv's and some have cars and fly abroad on holidays, must be a lot of absent baby daddies

But does the benefit cap apply only to mothers?

I don't see any justification in having child benefit for more than one child. It's not society's responsibility to fund an individual's breeding. But it seems benevolent enough to help a family who can not afford offspring, to have one.

If in that state they probably qualify for other help in the welfare safety net anyway, which should cover most other needs (and arguably should make child benefit obsolete anyway).

However having one child and receiving help is not the green flag to have more that you can't afford. Be thankful for the help given, don't abuse it's existence.

I agree OG

"But does the benefit cap apply only to mothers?"

No it doesn't.

But it is invariably mothers who begin or become "single" who are left with childcare responsibilities. Some have genuinely been left in that predicament through no fault of their own. But many have never been anything other than single and choose not to trouble the father(s) of their children with the tiresome task of providing for them.

I wonder how much child benefit gets spent on children's essentials like food and clothing in some families who are already living off benefits.

//Look on the bright side, there is no cap on banker’s bonuses.//

And another leftie sound bite.

Would you prefer these 'Bankers' to relocate abraod?  Becasue they can easily these days you know. Then you get no tax. But as an avid leftie you wouldnt get that, just like the last brain drain we had.
