The Galaxy bar has changed recently from 110g to 100g but remains the same price. Mars Confectionery were  citing increased costs and overheads etc to justify the price increase. This is an insult from a company that is amongst the top 5 wealthiest companies on the planet. Everything they make in the confectionery side of the business is pure profit and is subsidised by the Mars bar, which itself makes 1/2p profit on every sale. But this is what companies do now, isn't it? Take the mick out of everyone with these excuses. This is a private company and has never had shareholders. The greed and the insults don't surprise me in the slightest.

*** the bed, have you told the people of Morocco about this? It'll certainly put things into perspective for them.

Mmmm. Is that reply in the right thread, LadyGC?

Ooops! LadyCG. Sorry!

They've all been doing it for years, less product same price.  There was a huge fuss about Rolos about 20 years ago. Lupak is now 400 gms instead of 500.

😀

I paid £6.40 today for a latte and a pumpkin latte and that was with a staff discount.  Prior to the pandemic they were £1.82.

I'm seriously thinking of giving them up. 🤔

I saw a jar of Peanut Butter for £5.

Golden Wonder Tomato crispd 0.85p

I've decided not to look at the prices in future.😂

^^^^

😄

Jokes aside, it must be awful for families on a tight budget

Absolutely, Patsy.  I did indulge in a honey yogurt at the Farm Shop and a jar of Staffordshire honey - £8.49 in total - but I don't mind paying for excellent farm produce from a small supplier.

Paying oodles more for everyday brands that you've been buying since you were young enough to remember is a bit galling.

Why are tinned tomatoes so expensive these days?

It's Heinz products that have skyrocketed in price.  For the first time in his life my ultra-fussy FIL is using cheaper supermarket brands.

Re canned tomatoes. Mostly come from Italy where terrible weather severely affected tomato crops.

I know what you mean, Lcg. Quality honey is a lovely treat now & again, especially supporting local produce from small businesses. The everyday food stuff we buy week after week, seems to jump up at least 50p. Tin tomatoes used to be very cheap but they're creeping up to a £1, and that's not the top quality ones.. Same with baked beans, (we only like Heinze) they're a luxury these days! As for the bars of chocolate, I hardly buy it now, only for the grandson.

I beg to differ as I would rather do without than eat Heinz Beans or Soups.

Branston for me any day.

^I agree...people who only have Heinz (beans, soup, ketchup) have been got at by persuasive advertising agencies..

Heinz products never fare well in blind taste tests.

"Everything they make in the confectionery side of the business is pure profit and is subsidised by the Mars bar, which itself makes 1/2p profit on every sale."

If everything, "in the confectionery side of the business is pure profit", why would those products need a subsidy from the sales of Mars bars?

I've never bothered with Heinz myself.  I am quite happy with Aldi or Lidl but when it comes to Tartare Sauce, Apple Sauce, Cocktail Sauce or Horseradish, it has to be Colman's, however I only buy products now on special offer.  I tend to use a fair few Knorr Stockpots and they have gone so ridiculously expensive so, again, we only buy them when they're on special offer and then we buy loads of them and stock up.

get that tin of Roses, Quality Street, and Heroes at Christmas to see how we are being ripped off

I wouldn't touch Roses now.  They're nothing like they used to be when I was a child.

The opening of the tin was magical.

The Quality Street Green Triangle was my favourite then and still is now.

The chocolate is rubbish these days. A lot of those in tins all taste the same!
