Looks like a straight question isn't going to get a straight answer, naomi. Maybe some background noise about community cohesion, cultural differences and basically getting a free pass for the sins of Empire. The big problem is though that many adherents are ready and willing to step up for Allah and honour. Mentalists.

who gives someone the right going around and vandalising things people hold with such respect blasphemy is pathetic but there should be punishment for this obnoxious behaviour
It's the fluffy bunny religion of peace, can't criticise that!
Maybe telling Muslims to just *** off at every opportunity will inoculate them to the power this relic holds over them as they groom, gamble, drink and generally cavort with impunity in some areas of the UK
Whoever called the police should be ashamed of themselves. If teachers can’t deal with an incident like that they shouldn’t be teaching. Kids should be taught to respect all books. That poor mother must have been worried sick - and no one has the right to do that - whatever their religion. I hope the police make every effort to find those who issued death threats - and to actually do something about it.

Roadman,
He's autistic.
I am wondering where he got the Koran from and as it was a, "dare", is that an indication the ones making the dare were aware it was inappropriate?
You don't half post some tosh Webbo ...you really do.
this is a hate crime so the police were right to be informed so that the school didnt have to dive into the complexity of the problem
Nonsense roadman. It’s kids larking about.
it may be kids larking about but they are committing a hate crime without realising it these actions have consequences a good lesson learned young
The police have stated it has been recorded as a "hate incident" and not a, "hate crime".
What have they recorded the death threats as?
"You don't half post some tosh Webbo ...you really do."

hahahahaha, you really couldnt make that up..do you know what irony is ?...everybody else on here does

if you posted tosh that would be a step up the ladder for you....

the remark of someone who lives outside this country and is frankly a 'norak' if he thinks this of the said Quran or the Bible, webbo.....
It’s telling me the link is invalid, Corby.
I've just tried it in a couple of different browsers and the link works for me.
Leaving aside the rather hysterical tone from the website, this looks like it has been a child's incident that has been allowed to get out of hand.

I know that the Koran is not allowed to touch the ground, or be damaged or defaced in any way, and to do so is a blasphemy to Islam.

But i seriously doubt that schoolkids fooling about would know that.

In that case, they should be punished for the offence of damaging a book deliberately, simply because that is not how books should be treated.

It can be explained to them the seriousness of their action as a religious issue, because respect for others' religions is part of living in a civilised society.

In my view, involving the police was a step too far by the school, taking unintentional consequences to an unacceptable level which is inappropriate for the age of the youngsters involved.

A lecture to the whole school about respect for the property of others is appropriate, and in an RE lesson for the year group involved, discussion of the sanctity of the Koran to Muslims would assist in education of people who live differently from the way the majority of the population do.
