Always loved this song.
I guess the song is mostly about memories of young love and happier days.

The lyric that has puzzled me for years though is "What ever happened when Tuesday and so slow" can anyone shed some light ?

TIA.

I guess Van and the lady of his affection used to dance slowly on a Tuesday - or maybe not just dancing ...
I always got annoyed at radio edits removing "making love in the green grass" out of the song.
Although for my money, Van's finest moment is Moondance. Absolutely adore that song.
A little about the song here, including references to the original title and the altered lyrics on some versions.

Seems he didn't rate it as highly as the fans did for some time.

I always thought that it was' Tuesday came so slow' implying that he couldn't see her until then.
me too, Mexican. Just goes to show, you hear something that doesn't make sense and your mind adjusts it to something that does.
My husband's very favourite, too.
I am really not a fan, but Too Late To Stop Now is the finest live album I have ever heard.
I was always a fan but went to see him once and it was very disappointing. He just didn't seem interested!

My best guess is that the lovers used to meet there every Tuesday.
I think Mexican may have cracked it.
Mexican - // I was always a fan but went to see him once and it was very disappointing. He just didn't seem interested! //

I have seen him a number of times, professionally, and I have always found his utter lack of interaction disrespectful, but apparently his fans accept that is simply the way he is.

Christie Moore told me that VM suffers from depression, and he finds speaking from the stage difficult, so he simply plays his songs and goes.
One of my favourite songs of all time, great, catchy tune. Always makes me think of a beautiful brown eyed dog I once had, I always called her 'my brown eyed girl'.
Not even the best song on the Album Chip. That would be Into The Mystic. Well remember buying it late 60s. Also saw him with Them, up Burslem in the old dive of a place on Waterloo Rd, opposite Nile St. about 1966. He was not "shy" and introvert then believe me. He was like PJ Proby on acid, and his pants were tighter. I suppose that is how he reached all the high notes on Here Comes The Night. Did you also know that Them recorded a song called One Two Brown Eyes in 1964?
I agree, Into the mystic was wonderful!
Isn't Jools Holland much the same, Andy? If he can't be bothered he just doesn't turn up.
