I'm booked in for a scan on Tuesday and was reading through the paperwork where it says if you have metal anywhere you MAY not be able to have it done.
I've got metal rods & screws in my femur which my consultant knows about, does anyone know the score on this type of thing. I've had MRIs before but that was before they fixed my leg.
It'll all depend on what materials have been used.
Most implants and prostheses are now made with MRI-safe metals, such as titanium.
However, even if the metal isn't attracted to the magnet, they do still interact with the magnetic field and can cause distortions and mess up the MRI image.
when I broke my arm many years ago (forearm) I got a metal pin and 2 screws. But last year when I was knocked down and got arm X-rayed again - it didn't seem to cause bother.
But as others have said - ring before you go. Good luck Sillie.
