Did anyone see the street interview with the girlfriend of woman who was killed in Beirut?
She said how she (the victim) was just about to go back to England on leave, "and I had just said, 'happy holidays' to her".
Do you find that maddening, sickening or don't you care?

People can call this time of year whatever they want as far as I am concerned.

It's just a name. It is the sentiment behind it that is important.
not sure i understand, is this the young woman who was murdered in Lebanon?
i don't find it anything but incredibly sad, another life lost.
It's not a phrase I would use but I'd appreciate the sentiment if it was said to me.
i find it sickening she was killed. Don't see what's wrong with Happy Holiday's??
I find it sickening that a person was murdered.
Don't mind 'Happy Holidays' or 'Compliments of the Season'

But it's Christmas, it says so on my calendar, and that's what my Muslim friend calls it too.
oh i see now, people can surely call it Happy Holidays if they so choose, I have heard Americans say that at times
so what, you call it christmas - I call it bonus 2 days off work time.

It's not Christmas for everyone, call it what you want and stop *** whinging

What is disingenuous, is saying anything special at all. Where does the "happy" come from? When your friends, ( that is if you have any friends talking like that ) are leaving for their summer vacation, would you say, "happy holidays" to them?
^^^ I'd say "Enjoy your holiday", which seems to be much the same to me.
Well, when my friends go on holiday i say "have a happy holiday" unless its X in which case i say, I hope the kids get the *****.

what's the difference, stop nit picking. It doesn't matter. Say something or say nothing, the world won't stop turning, it's irrelevant.
Khandro....not sure what point you are trying to make here ?
I may be wrong (often am) but I think at this time of year there are a few 'festivals' therefore by saying 'Happy Holidays' is a sign of keeping fingers crossed that you haven't offended anyone of any particular religion (or none)

I really doubt that, I think you probably say something like Chris says above.
Using the word "happy" is purposely omitting the word "Christmas", I know that and you know that.
That is why it is 'signalling' and disingenuous.
As far as I know she was working in Beirut and was returning for a holiday. Christmas or not.
Saw a Christmas card yesterday, it said "Have a wonderful winter".
Let me get this straight, you heard or read a report about a young woman being murdered in Lebanon and the only thing you can think of doing is moaning because her friend said ' Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas?' Are you for real?
Certainly the day for surreal threads.

Enjoy the end of the Year Khandro.x
