I've never had a coffee from Costa, Starbucks and the like and the fanciest coffee I've ever had (apart from liqueur coffees) is a cappuccino in a glass cup. Remember them?

Am I depriving myself of one of life's pleasures?

i've never in my 66 years had a coffee in a coffee shop ...
i have a few friends who cant live without coffee..i cant drink coffee dont like it
You're missing getting ripped off. I've never patronised these places either.
no you are saving yourself from being unmercifully ripped off, and seeing how the cups are not recyclable
you are destroying the planet. Save your money, have a coffee in the comfort of your own home.
I did a post about this a while back and i was amazed how many people do take away coffee.

I used to love the cafes when I was a kid - the juke box and the pinball machines and I do have coffee when I'm out and about but prefer 'ordinary' cafes.

Why do non-smokers insist on sitting outside Costa in the middle of winter?
and the stat came out that we throw away, wait for it, 25 billion cups every year, that is as they say a lot of cups and a lot of landfill.
I used to love a coffee from the coffee shop, either on the way to work or nip out at break time. Far better than the instant rubbish
Italian cafes were different, beautiful coffee in lovely cups, often with a few biscotti biscuits thrown in, many went when the coffee chains took a hold on our high streets.
Haha...my son has just headed off to Costa. He's hungover...apparently they serve cakes as well.

I make 'proper' coffee at home.
Well so di I but they don't in the office HC!
I love how people like to put coffee shops down but lets face it they are keeping the high street alive at the moment.
Love coffee (especially latte) and enjoy having one when I'm out having lunch with friends.
I can't say what you're missing as I've never been in one but I do know that McDonalds do a perfectly good cup for about a pound and you get a free one for every six you buy.
Those shops are for when you are out and want a coffee, one doesn't make a day trip to them. The coffee is fine but expensive for what it is.

There are other coffee houses and they are the more expensive ones that do the glass coffees etc. There used to be a really nice one where I used to live, coffee was superb and the care taken in presenting it a work of art. Knew it was expensive but used to treat myself there on occasion. But occasional expensive purchases couldn't have made for a good turnover or profit. He gradually catered for further and further downmarket custom, and it eventually wasn't special enough to bother with any more. Expensive luxury is a treat, expensive but not so expensive, basic isn't.
i dont like coffe, but will often have tea in costa - until fairly recently, they were the only place you could get decaff tea reliably
do you go out HC? We try to use independent cafes, but always have a coffee when we arrive somewhere, and again half way round. Whether that be a town or a visitor attraction.
Question Author
Maydup, I do indeed go out and there is nothing I like more than a coffee and bacon sandwich in a cafe in the morning, or coffee and cafe in a tearoom in the afternoon. My favourite, of course, is a cream tea at the seaside :D

I just don't see the attraction of these huge chains.
they are not known for calling them Costa Packet and Megabucks for nothing, give them a miss.
McDonalds do a decent coffee.
Question Author
Ha! Never been to a McDonald's, either. Proper china for me, please
