Can someone let me have an idea for using prawns in a buffet but not vol-au-vents please.  It is my daughter's 21st tomorrow and I have bought two bags of frozen Young's peeled prawns. Tried to e.mail young's chef from their website but no reply.  It is a special request from my daughter but I have never used them b4

Cheers

my mum makes this lovely dish where she adds shredded lettuce to the prawns and covers is with a dressing (perhaps thousand island dressing? I'm not sure. It's pink, though).

It always goes down really well when she has buffets. There's never any left!

To make the pink sauce CiderMonkey mentions mix together equal quantities of tomato ketchup, salad cream and fresh cream (If you use an extra thick one it will make the marie-rose sauce less runny).

How about open sandwiches with cream cheese topped with prawns?
Yep, agree that the prawn cocktail idea is scrummy, also the prawn topped cheesy sarnies. And you can make prawn coleslaw: shred onion, cabbage & carrot, add to mayo and tomato sauce mixture, season to taste, chuck in prawns, yummy.

You are all stars, I could do all of these in just a short space of time and still get all the other things done.  Excellent and many thanks for this.
How about some ritz biscuits with cream cheese and pile a few prawns on top, quick and easy to eat.
Dot,a spoonful of prawns with the sauce on fresh wheaten bread is gorgeous.Whenever I get the m and s prawn cocktail,I always have it that way.

thanks angiesue/lindapinda

Great ideas which I can play around with, got lots of Ritz crackers 'cos what would a party be without them!  Like the bread idea too 'cos it is easy.

Now talk me out of the gateau and cheesecake, plus I have bought the cake from 'Have your cake and eat it', check out their site,

haveyourcakeandeatitorg. From Preston but they have moved recently and are just up the road!

I have ordered number 42 and it costs 52 but my daughter will be so chuffed!

Hi dothawkes, hope everything is going okay for your daughters 21st and that she (and you!) have a fantastic time. Have checked out haveyourcakeandeatit website and think the cakes look fantastic. I live t'other side of Preston from you and have never heard of them before!

Forgot to mention, in the pink sauce a little paprika is nice (don't worry if you see this too late to stick a bit in).

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 21st went really well, (if u were 21 and could stand the music so monotonous and loud, I sneaked away at 10pm to come home to watch BB final. ) The buffet went down really well though, I tried two prawn suggestions, the thousand island one and the sandwicj one, but I used wheatgerm bread, they all went so must have been good.  Most popular buffet item?  New potatoes, boiled with their skins on, tossed in mint sauce, I kid u not!

The cake was the star of the show next to my daughter who was IN A DRESS!  She looked like a movie star!  It was a bright red floor length figure hugging satin skirt with a bodice top, she even outshone the fabulous cake!  We scrub up well in Lancashire!
