postmans knock could be fun
A parent that teaches their children that screaming isn't right and they ought not do it ? Pull the other one: they don't exist any more. Now-a-days it's all a case of, "That's natural for kids". Society even sees no problem with showing it in TV adverts to encourge kids to do it. Proper parental instruction in socially acceptable behaviour went out of fashion around 3 decades ago.
And that shows how old, and grown up, OG is ! LOL

That's fine, Lady J, just don't leave me outside the pub, in the car, with a packet of crisps.

i will be taking a quick peek at you occasionally. what i told you.
My sons nursery used to have a screaming 5 minutes.

I thought it was a great idea.
What will you do when we do bad things lady-j?
Screaming for only 5 minutes a day sounds like a good idea to me. I'm with OG, I'm always asking why kids feel the need to scream all the time.

I'm going to play by myself, so I don't get into trouble!

I said BY myself!!
Kids should be seen and should be heard. They also should be taught that there is a time and place.

If someone successfully makes a kid keep quiet it tends to be through fear. Fear DOES NOT breed respect.
If I am naughty, do I get a smacking?
Can I play with you Baldric? You can chase me first if you like as long as I can pee on the table legs first.
// postmans knock could be fun// Or jockey's knock ( similar to postman's knock but with more horseplay)

WR.
lichen is a living organism and some of the species are protected, when we used to do grave yard surveys we were not allowed to in any way disturb and lichen growing on a headstone for that reason.
Don't think children are quiet through fear. All young children like to make noise, given the chance, but not all do so unrestrained. In the end, like all young animals, they are dependent on their parents, and pleasing the parents is rapidly, probably instinctively, seen as the best policy. Therefore, the child that sees disapproval will alter its response and behaviour to conform with what it sees as gaining affection and approval, and, conversely, will continue in behaviour which seems tolerated or approved. Clouting it may, in fact, reinforce the behaviour, though it may stop it briefly, because , at at least, the child is getting attention.

I blame the parents (a complaint often heard in this household, made by the parents!)
