What's it called when you are accused if a crime and its because you failed to do something but to an extent where it's criminal. It's used on Law And Order a lot. Sorry I can't give you more to go on guys.

It's depraved indifference. It took every ounce of my brainpower to come up with that. Kisses guys.
That is very much an American term.
yeah not really an English thing

I suppose child neglect and its successors comes into that category

Those damned froggies have non-assistance a personne en danger:
La non-assistance à personne en danger est l'engagement de la responsabilité pénale d'une personne qui n'interviendrait pas face à une personne courant un danger.
L'engagement a lieu si :
la personne a connaissance du danger ;
elle est en mesure d'agir ;
l'action ne présente pas de danger pour la personne ni pour un tiers
I've never heard that expression!
Neither have heard of it. Must be American. Nothing in English law is depraved !
An alleged crime is investigated by the police in the UK and if the CPS are satisfied that the evidence should lead to a conviction you are charged with the offence, you have to prove nothing in court it is up to the prosecution to prove you are guilty. I think you may be thinking of depraved indifference to human life, which is American law, not English.
Freddie - taking your eye off the baarl:
what about in this year of half-century of Christine keeler - no less, [or no more]

Since 1857, a series of obscenity laws known as the Obscene Publications Acts have governed what can be published in England and Wales. The classic definition of criminal obscenity is if it "tends to deprave and corrupt," stated in 1868 by John Duke Coleridge, 1st Baron Coleridge.

or havethey been repealed ? all ask PP
Yes, Peter, but I always ignore obscenity. And you are right in remembering. The Obscene Publications Act 1959 s1(1)contains the words " such as tend to deprave and corrupt". Oh, f*** !
.

child neglect and also terrorist legislation - if ya see someone making a pipe bomb, you have to dob them in don't you ?

crimes of omission are definitely on the rare side in English law
