I've got some some very decent Averys Claret (Chateau Bernot Bordeaux Rouge 2009) to have with the Haggis (to celebrate The Auld Alliance) then ...

... I already have a bottle of 14yo Bruichladdich open and it's up to the visitors to choose between an elderly 1984 Auchentoshan, a 1995 Caol Ila or (if my arm is twisted a bit) a rather rare 1990 Glen Scotia.

Well obviously that is also where I'm currently up to - a rather nice cup of 2012 Aldi Diplomat Gold, with a drop of skimmed milk :)
Cider, the same as any Friday night.
2013 Nambarrie with a tiny wee splash of UHT skimmed milk in my spotty mug lol
The Balvennie, Doublewood 12yo

Nice :)
I'll have a drop of that rare 1990 Glen Scotia, please dave.
I had my haggis, neeps and tatties on Wednesday night. (£4.99, including a very nice pint of 'Auld Lang Syne' in the Wetherspoon's pub in Horsham). So I don't think that I'll bother tonight.

My budget doesn't usually stretch to luxury whiskies and I might have a problem choosing one anyway. That's because I always used to love the really peaty flavours of the Islay single malts (such as Laphroaig) but my taste buds can't seem to handle them these days. I'd rather spend less and buy a decent blended Scotch or even try some of the English whisky that's distilled here in East Anglia:

(Perhaps I should get some in for St George's Day?)

Try the Aldi 'Glen Orrin', Chris.

Won't damage the pocket too much & is a very pleasant Highland Malt blend.

I have a simple glass of 'Pillar Box Red'. Looks horribly cheap, but is delicious! My Dad has a rare glass of Glenfiddich mixed with green ginger wine. He's on warfarin so he's not allowed the good stuff very often.
Nothing yet, we're celebrating tomorrow
Thanks for the tip, Dave.

I rarely drink spirits anyway and a bottle of supermarket 'value' stuff is often good enough ('cos it will be mixed with ginger wine to make a Whisky Mac) but I might try to one you've suggested.
I'll throw open the doors on the whisky cupboard and see what is open. It's feeling like an Islay night for sure!
Ginger Beer as I am still on my regime, Lady J following I believe......sibs is creaking at the joints on this!

... annd tonnighhtts winnerrr iiisss :

The Auchentoshan 1984 - to everyone's surprise, beating off even a late arrival from Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

The lightest coloured scotch I've ever seen - zero peat, zero caramel - just a big mouthful of the best malt flavour I've tasted for many years.
Sounds like you've had a good night sunny-dave.
Nothing too exotic in mine but a nice Aberlour nevertheless.
The weather sent me home early so I am finishing Burn's Night with the last of the Jura that belongs to a friend. Will have to replace it before he visits...but it is nice.
To beat Quarter Cask from top position the Auchentoshan must have been quite remarkable!!

I hope you've had a good night.
