For that dear little girls sake I hope there is soon closure one way or the other. But what I dont understand is why the government has put 2 Million pounds into the search. The McCanns had a huge fund raising and a huge amount of publicity. what about other Parents whose children have gone missing. Did the Mother of Ben Needham who was abducted in Greece ever receive the amount of help and Financial given to them ? No.And I am sure there are many other deserving cases that are forgotten too. Why special treatment for the McCanns.?And remember that she was taken because she was left in the apartment while her Parents were out wining and dining and would still be safe and sound otherwise.

Because the McCanns got straight onto the media and haven't stopped since.

Lets not go down the blame root again.
This question has been debated many times - when so many children go missing every year, why did this case capture the incessant attention of the media in the way that it did?

I have no answer, but like you, I hope for closure for the poor parents. I shy away from taking the moral high ground over their behaviour - they have paid, and continue to pay, a seriously heavy pricec for their lack of proper child care.
"...195 potential leads of finding her alive..."

I pray they do !
the mcanns have constantly kept their little girl in the public spotlight,i too hope that she is found safe...why the govt intervention for this paticular case...who knows???
The McCanns have fought tirelessly to find their daugter and raised the money for this. Maybe Ben Needham's Mum didn't handle it the same way? I don't think the McCanns can be blamed for trying to keep their daughter's plight in the public eye. Wouldn't we all do the same? I feel for all parents of missing children.
I entirely agree - but I still wonder why the world's media, and especially the UK media, deveoted such an acreage of space to reporting this sad loss?
I have always felt that had Madeleine not been so pretty, come from a sink estate and did not have the media savvy parents her story would be long forgotten.

It must be heartbreaking for the parents of children who have disappeared and who got just a fraction of the media coverage.
A GP and a surgeon, that's why.
I don't know andy, I never think about it that way. I suppose it's the same with some murders, some are reported more widely than others aren't they? I think the more publicity the better, maybe the MCanns have a hand in all this publicity, and who can blame them.
There's a definite air of finger-pointing at, and dislike of, the McCanns among many people but I agree that had the media not chosen to focus on them and this case so much we wouldn't be having this debate. I think there are a number of factors, among which is Mrs McCann being an attractive blonde who drew a lot of attention when splashed on a front page, looking sad and troubled. I don't mean to be so base about it, I really do think that had a lot to do with it.
They are highly educated people. I think many people subconsciously admire that.
And I truly believe that. When I was in business and was chasing money I often got the usual 'the cheques in the post' When I got my very posh accountant to phone...they actually posted the cheque.
I hope they're getting somewhere at last.
Wouldn't it be lovely to see her alive and well.
it would be wonderful if she was found, god knows what must be going through their minds, its to late now for them to say'i wish i had'nt done that'i think they will pay the price for that for the rest of their lives.i cant imagine what i'd do in their place,i wonder if madeleine will remember her parents ?????
I often think that slinky. My earliest memory goes back to 5 and that's a bit hazy and Madeleine was 4 when abducted. Yes, her parents will always be tormented by that night I fear.
chap----,my earliest memories is about 5 as well, starting school etc,a few things i remember at 4ish,but not very clear
The world was a much smaller place when Ben Needham disappeared
I dont understand why the government has put £2 million into the search pot when the pot was already rather large
Ben Needham got nothing
how old would ben be now????
Can I ask, does anyone know it the Mc Cann's are involved in any other charity work?
Bear with me... I would be a lot more supportive of their plight if each statement released went some thing along the lines of '' the Mc Cann's, patrons of Missing Kiddie.com....''
When I had the mis-fortune to have a dog stolen [and no I am not comparing the two] I had a lot of help from Dog Lost, as such I am now a member on the site and frequently post posters of other dogs.
Does that make sense? Yes we're all sorry about your daughter but what of all the other kids that go missing that don't have parents in the same position either financially, or maybe as has been mentioned, academically to gain the same support. The Mc Cann's just seem to me to be a little ''all about us'' when they could do so much more.
Just my humble opinion...
