So this couple and their kids think they have been harshly done by?

Once again it seems that they have got off lightly.

If every Tom, Dick and even India was to pick the flowers as soon as they appeared there would be none left for others to enjoy.

We know that kids do not know differently, but adults should and their kids should have been chastised upon picking the first flower.

/// 'If we'd seen it we would have stopped them, but all it needed was for whoever complained to have approached us and made us aware.///

Firstly 'If we'd seen it we would have stopped them'

Obviously they were not keeping their eyes on their children,

And 'all it needed was for whoever complained to have approached us and made us aware'

Yes, and could you imagine the barrage of four letter words he or she would have received in return?

The parents should have kept an eye out on the girls.

Flowers in public places are supposed to make the place look nice for the public, not to be picked.

Lock EM UP :-)
I`m just amazed they bothered to tell the newspapers while tens of thousands of people have died in Japan. Heaven forbid that their and their kids` sensitivities have been offended. They should get some perspective.
My G/daughters are 4 & 6yrs old and they know not to pick flowers because their parents told them when they were smaller, why weren't these kids told by their parents especially the 10 year old "Unbelievable" after all these flowers come up every year, did they pick em last year the year before & before that?

Relax, relax, they were daffodils, not poppies.
"Once again it seems that they have got off lightly." Has this family been let off previous offences?!

By the way, how do you know they'd have launched a barrage of 4-letter words if the councillor had approached them first? That's rather presumptuous on your part isn't it?

I think it was right to caution them.
Well I used to pick flowers when I was young no matter how many times my mother told me not to.

Do you have kids AOG?
Looking at the time scales it seems abit whiffy to me.

1) someone sees them and contacts the police (being generous, let's say the police got there in 20 minutes)
2) the police "observe" them for 20 mins (according to the mum)

Ok so at this point the kids had been picking the flowers for 40 minutes and STILL the mum and dad haven't seen them!
are you saying seriously ummm that you would let your kids pick flowers for 40 minutes and not stop them?
When did it become appropriate to name children after countries?
sp1814 - "When did it become appropriate to name children after countries?" - I don't know but I like it. My kids Hungary and Dominicanrepublic are the envy of all their school friends.

Bednobs...I didn't look at the timescale. Of course I wouldn't...I wouldn't let them pick flowers...end of.

They did get off lightly......in a proper country the parents would have been stoned to death and the children forced into prostitution. All they got was two policemen on overtime and danger money.
Its a well known fact that some enterprising folk often pop to their local graveyard pinch the flowers and sell them off.
Its simple, the police would rather attend the park to deal with dangerous little girls picking flowers, than catch violent criminals. They must be sooooo proud of them selves.
Its an odd story...the counciller who spots them doesnt call the police himself - he calls someone in his family, who calls them? - Was it a 999 call, or was it the actual station they called I wonder

Its a nothing story, pictures of sad kid who is now "scared" to go to the park....of course as some presumptious people on here may think, surely the parents will just tell the child to "grow the beep up". I bet they claim benefits illegally as well...probably racist too....and homophobic
Picking flowers in the park is probably done on a regular basis. I remember the kids across the road (now grown up) coming home on Mother's Day with a bunch for their mother. What do they expect? The kids thought it was lovely to bring home flowers for Mum. They had no money and saw the daffodils. Problem solved.
I used to pick them out of peoples gardens. Just one or two from each garden on my way home. By the time I was home I had a lovely bunch for my Mum. It's very hard to tell off a child when they are holding a bunch of flowers out.

She did tell me it was wrong...but...
