R1.....I must say that I agree with you.....it is a form of one one-upmanship...a sort of class differentiation, e.g the middle and upper classes say Mayorca........the lower classes say Majorca.

I'm not talking about pronunciation grollykins, when I last visited Mallorca the hotel I stayed in gave it's address as Mallorca not Majorca.
