Valid outrage or sense of humour bypass? Don't answer just to *** off the program, if you don't like top gear that's your choice, I don't want your twee remarks.

It was the other Top Gear Christmas Special which got most complaints...

// Fans attacked the presenters’ pretend drive-by-shooting of the helmeted racing driver as “insensitive”. During the episode, the presenters were shown zooming round a race track in Virginia in the US in sports cars and blasting likenesses of Collins with guns.

A BBC spokesman said there had been a “considerable amount of complaints”.

And a spokesman for TV regulator Ofcom said: “We have had complaints and we will be looking into it in due course.” //

But that goes not enforce your Xenophobia so you didn't post about thhose complaints.
Ironic isn’t it? Muslims and their supporters protest that banning the burqa/niqab would be an infringement of human rights, and yet if a non-Muslim dresses similarly, suddenly they don‘t have that right. Choudary isn’t offended - he’s a trouble maker and nothing else. There is no requirement within Islam for women to wear masks. The burqa/niqab has become a political symbol in the west and it’s time the world acknowledged that and started saying ‘no’ the absurd demands of hate-filled fanatics who use their bogus ‘faith‘ to dangerous political ends - and if anyone here thinks people like Choudary don‘t, then they ought to think again.

Jake, Al Jezeera’s failure to ask Nick Griffin for comments on the UK doesn’t negate the fact that Choudery is a power-obsessed madman who wields enormous influence over flocks of twisted, superstitious sheep - and we, and the mainstream Muslim population of this country, ignore that at our peril.
Gromit, if you think the other complaint was more worthy of a question, why don't you post one?
I agree with you Naomi 100%. I am somewhat surprised that there hasn't been more of an outcry over the Stig baby.

The chatter over the Life of Brian reminds me of the wonderful cartoon of the Three Kings in the Christmas Private Eye. With the title of "Gold Frankincense and Marr," there's a cartoon of Andrew Marr grinning on the third camel.......
If Mary Whitehouse was still around she'd have sued PE for blasphemy.
Definite sense of humour bypass - it was Top Gear after all, a show presented by 3 immature adults - lighthearted banter and stupidity are the order of the day where Jeremy, Captain Slow and Hamster are concerned. Don't like it? Don't bother watching it then.

And, yes, it is a bit rich that this guy Choudary, who praised the 9/11 and 7/7 bombers, should be singled out for comment? Anyone with a hole in his wotsit would know what idiots like him would say.

It reminds me of the various religious bigots in our midst, some of whom turned out in hatred during the Pope's visit a few months back. These types of people are all over the place - that's why we're a democracy.
Why aren't we allowed to criticise top gear on this thread? It is crap after all. You can't ask a question involving Top Gear and then only allow answers that don't say it's crap.

Now I've got that out of my system - Sense of humour bypass? - no, that's impossible because in order to bypass something it has to be there in the first place, and clearly a sense of humour was never present in the kind of people who'd object to this, and never will be. I'm glad they're offended to be honest.

because I wanted to focus on the burka issue. Start your own thread if you want to have go at the program.
Ludwig, you're a man of infinite commonsense. I like you. :o)
Thanks Naomi - You're not a Top Gear fan either then? ;-)
// Gromit, if you think the other complaint was more worthy of a question, why don't you post one? //

I don't think it is. Both complaints are about miserable people not getting a joke. The Stig drive by shooting was not worthy of a post, and neither was this one. Show any TV programme, and for everyone that thinks it is brilliant, there will be someone who doesn't like it.

I still think Jeremy Clarkson in a Burka is a cheap and feeble joke, in an otherwise humourous and highly enjoyable programme.
// On the Yahoo! forum, someone wrote, 'Death to America', which another, called Rebecca Liberty, said mocking burkas is 'ugly'.

But a user called BussW spoke up for the show and said: 'Why are so many people offended. it's just a piece a clothing. the Burka is not in the Quaran at all. if people are so offended why dont they switch over the TV?'

Some viewers also took to Twitter to blast the burka stunt with one saying: This is probably the worst top gear special. Y the f*** r they wearing burkas!!?’ //

There isn't really any evidence that any of thse people are Muslim. Rebecca Liberty doesn't sound particulsrly muslim, while 'someone' and 'some viewers' could be anyone of any religion.

Maybe tney just tnought it feeble and unfunny. I hoped laughing at fat old transvestites disappeared with 'It Ain't Half zhot Mum'.
I didn't think that Clarkson et al wearing burkas was insulting. How can it be? The burka is not a universal symbol of Islam. We are informed by those moderates who follow the teachings of Islam that the burka is simply a garment worn in some countries and not in others. We have been reliably told that there is no compulsion to wear the garment and that some Muslim women chose to wear it of their own volition; much like one day choosing to wear a skirt and the following day, a pair of trousers. It's all totally voluntary and none compulsory. So why would a man wearing a burka be seen as an insult to Islam when the wearing of a burka is completely voluntary?

As Naomi more than adequately put earlier, “Muslims and their supporters protest that banning the burqa/niqab would be an infringement of human rights, and yet if a non-Muslim dresses similarly, suddenly they don't have that right.”
Continued...

I see this criticism as an example of over sensitive morons who seem to labour under the delusion that their religion and culture should always be treated with the utmost respect, deference and reverence and should never be subject to any form of satire, ridicule, or criticism. The belief that a religion and custom, no matter how crazy or misogynistic, should always be shown in a positive light is not only absurd, it is positively obscene.

However, I do accept that asking Anjem Choudary his noxious opinion is not helpful in any way. I'm not a fan of the Daily Mail but their description of him as an, 'Islamic extremist' was absolutely accurate. This character is, quite frankly, revolting in his ideas and general attitude - an intelligent moron, driven by religious absolutism.

Pat Condell is not a fan of Anjem (nee. Andy) Choudary.
So 3 people on a Yahoo forum who do not sound particularly muslim is a outcry? Pathetic journalism and only the most gullible will fall for it. As pointed out earlier, more people were outraged by them shooting a cardboard cut out of the Stig.

If the Top Gear team want to drive throught the desert dressed as fat old transvestites, then that is up to them. Some people may find it funny, someone may find it insulting, I just find it a bit sad and desperate.
I found it amusing. But more than that, I thought that wearing the burka was a practical solution to the problem they faced.

In what way was it 'sad' and 'desperate'?
In the same way as when the Pythons and the Two Ronnies dressed up as old women when they had a feeble script. I realise that the Dame is an established pantomime figure, but this is yhe 21st century.

Surely you are tired of laughing at old transvestites by now?
Gromit, oh no we're not!!

Ludwig, I've watched bits of it, that's all.
