One of the Navy’s new £3 billion aircraft carriers will never carry aircraft and will sail for only three years before being mothballed and possibly sold, ministers will announce on Tuesday.

The Government’s Strategic Defence and Security Review will also confirm that Britain will not have an effective “carrier strike” capability – a working aircraft carrier equipped with fighter jets – until 2020.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself. The last time this happened was 1982 when the Government announced it had flogged HMS Invincible to the Australians. Two months later, British Territory was invaded, and the Aircraft Carrier played a major role in winning getting it back.
The sale of HMS Invicible was cancelled, and she played a major role in the Battle for Basra in the Iraq conflict.

Well here is my two-pennies worth.

Once again you twist my words and use them out of context so as to try and get your own point over.
I do not believe in starving our troops of the very best equipment that money can buy, this of course includes paying them the going rate equivalent to other dangerous jobs that are paid in 'civvy street' also including decent accommodation for their wives and families.
I along with most I hope, do not wish to see fatalities especially when we are fighting a war on behalf of a foreign country.
Regarding getting rid of an Aircraft carrier along with their jets, this is ridiculous when the 'Argie Bargies' are still waiting to get their hands on a piece of Crown British Territories ie The Falklands.

I am pleased to see cuts in the riddiculous armed forces purchases Geezer - I've expressed dismay about these riddiculous aircraft carriers on here before.

Not in building things to fight wars thousands of miles away

Are you suggesting that one moors a Aircraft carrier complete with aircraft and crew, off the coast of the Islands 24 hours, 7days, 52 weeks of the year, thousands of miles away from it's home port?
If we had battalions upon battalions of land troops stationed permanently on the Islands, we could not defend it from a country the size of Argentine with all the resources it possesses.
No the way to defend it is to have the necessary equipment and men available in the UK ready at a moments notice to head for the Falklands, on the information gathered from the security services.
That is the way that brilliant PM Mrs Thatcher carried out the task and won.
