I am forever being classed as racist on this site, but I have always stated quite categorically that this is untrue.

What I do fight for though is equality for all, something that the white male in this country does not enjoy.

This case is a typical example, I wonder if the 'Offices of Equal opportunities' or whatever these institutions are called, primarily set up to protect the interests of minority groups.

It blatantly states white males need not apply.

* A summer development programme open to ‘talented individuals’ from black or ethnic minority backgrounds;
* A summer placement scheme for ‘talented students’ with a registered disability; and
* A university placement scheme open to female students, students from an ethnic minority background and students who come from a household with an income of £25,000 or lower.

No equal opportunities here for a white male.

Now this is what I call 'RACIST'

In fact you are allowed to state race and other ethnic criteria in an advert for certain jobs (with prior permission).

This may be for a job working in environment with women from certain ethnic groups (like a refuge or similar) and so on. I see this quite regularly here in Birmingham.

Not sure if this is the case in this advert.

I have often wondered what would happen if a white person went for a job as a waiter in an "Indian restaurant".

I have never seen a white person (or woman for that matter) working in an "Indian restaurant".

Spot on,Steve.
Would we have so many immigrants coming in to the UK, if we had compulsory National Service from18 years old, doubt it?
Its not an understatement to say you shouldn't put falcons in parrot cages. Asking them to co-exist will eventually lead to trouble.
If you live in a big city like london or Birmingham can a white male apply on these grounds seeing as they ae probably a minority?

we are frightened to bloody breathe here
Democracy? pah!!!!
A.o.g I don't think you are racist at all, you say what others would like to but don't!
you stay within the boundaries of decency, I think
Some states in USA have positive discrimination laws that require employers to meet % quotas for ethnic minorities, disabled and gender. One major insurance company found it impossible to recruit enough suitable people to comply so created some non-jobs at minimum wage and just isolated them from the regular staff.
AOG, In my book someone who makes generalised assumptions (usually negative) about someone based on their race is racist.

I believe from your postings that you do that.

Presumably you have a different definition of what a racist is - I'd be interested to know what you think a racist is
jtp, what about when racism is reversed, like the header says?
I cannot see why people get so worked up about stuff like this.

I am white and I am not offended by said adverts, it is just specifics.
me neither Greed, but in defence of aog, he does get called racist a lot for putting his point across which he is entitled to, he sets good debates and I personally don't find any of it offensive. :-o))
Yes you get racism in all directions.

Most notably I've seen between Indian and west African communities.

But the point is that White people in this country occupy a strong position of power and influence out of context with their numbers.

How maby Black Cabinet ministers do you know? Seen any Black Chief Constables? High court Judges? (there are a few of these but they are few and far between)

That is why there are departments for minorities - to help them get the same opportunities that the white population has.
"To be honest with you whats wrong with being a racist, its not compulsory to like other groups, its your choice. Or is that another right being taken away by the pandering powers that be. "

Well, it's ignorant. That's what's wrong with it. It's also damaging to society as a whole and bars people from seeing the bigger picture - how are you supposed to solve complicated social problems if racists on both sides insist on just attributing them to race all the time without looking any deeper?

The right to be something doesn't make it right or wrong intrinsically - it just means it's not illegal.

I agree with Jake. I do reckon you're a racist, but that's just because of the things you say. You often target your criticism at ethnic minorities ('the Blacks', 'the Muslims') rather than groups or individuals within them, and seem to be unable of or uninterested in distinguishing between the two. I know that you're just going to get all outraged about having the right to criticise ethnic minorities* - but that's kind of the point. You seem to think it's the minorities themselves that you're attacking rather than members of them. You therefore come across like you believe you are criticising features that are shared by every member of that group. That's racist, therefore you seem racist.

*Incidentally, there's really no need to get so stroppy about this point - nobody's ever said you don't have the right to do this, they just think you're wrong and try to prove it.
Hi VHG. I drove my brother and sister up to Paisley, just west of Glasgow, in 1991 to my Gran's funeral. While we were there we took my Mother out to an Indian restaurant. The drinks waitresses were white and the waiters all spoke with broad Scottish accents. For the first twenty minutes it did seem quite bizzare.
Usual lefty rants from the usual suspect.

Attributing something to Muslims is not racist. Muslims are not a race it is a religion.

I'm with you AOG. Lefties, like many on this site hate free speech and only want all to have their views. They then adopt the holier than thou coupled with mudslinging to try and achieve their blinkered look.
well said young :-)
As far as I can see that advert is only excluding white middle class, able bodied males. You could be white and disabled, or white and earn less than £25,000, or even white, disabled and poor.
I'm not a leftie, but I don't actually understand 'racism'. How can anyone dislike other people simply due to race or colour? It's illogical. I can understand a dislike of particular aspects of culture - there are things about some cultures that I dislike intensely - but that doesn't mean I dislike the people as individuals, or tar them all with the same brush. That would be completely irrational.

As for jobs, I don't agree that vacancies should be open only to specific groups, or exclude specific groups, unless the position requires a particular skill or a special knowledge - in which case it would be stupid to do otherwise. Similarly, I disagree with short lists of women being drawn up in the political world to ensure proportional representation of the genders. People should stand on their own merits and no one should be afforded special privileges. I view that as patronising, demeaning and hence, insulting. In my opinion the most qualified for the job should get the job, regardless of colour, creed or gender.
