/// The hijab is worn by girls and women to observe Islamic dress code.///

Is it only Iran that fields a woman's team?

If not will the ban apply to all Muslim women's teams, no matter what country?

is it only Iran that fields a woman's team - it is a six-nation tournament for girls at the inaugural Youth Olympics being held Aug. 12-25 in Singapore

will the ban apply to all Muslim women's teams- Law 4 states that "basic compulsory equipment must not have any political, religious or personal statements.

did you even read your own link ???
Well Law 4 is quite clear, no relgious garb of any sort for anyone, end of. That would I presume also cover sikh's for example. They are not banning Muslim and/or womens teams, just what they would like to play in.
Law 4 states that "basic compulsory equipment must not have any political, religious or personal statements...............

Does this mean that the Scotland Football team wont be able to have a dagger in their sock when they play?
///Does this mean that the Scotland Football team wont be able to have a dagger in their sock when they play? ///

That's correct. Only the usual flick knife, hip flask and bicycle chain.
I would say someone has got it wrong somewhere along the line.

The International FA Board said
"Decision 1
Players must not reveal undergarments showing slogans or advertising. The
basic compulsory equipment must not have any political, religious or personal
statements.
A player removing his jersey or shirt to reveal slogans or advertising will be
sanctioned by the competition organiser. The team of a player whose basic
compulsory equipment has political, religious or personal slogans or statements
will be sanctioned by the competition organiser or by FIFA."

Law 4 defines compulsory equipment as follows

"The basic compulsory equipment of a player comprises the following separate
items:
• a jersey or shirt with sleeves – if undergarments are worn, the colour of the
sleeve must be the same main colour as the sleeve of the jersey or shirt.
• shorts – if undershorts are worn, they must be of the same main colour as
the shorts
• stockings
• shinguards
• footwear"

Nowhere is headwear defined as "basic compulsory equipment" so why has the hijab been banned?
TCL Mumping, It appears there's already been a safety issue relating to this form of attire and this is what the rulemakers have decided is right. Rules are rules, aren't they?

AOG, I can't see why there should be a ban on all Muslim women's teams. They'll be fine as long as they abide by the regulations.

I was only assuming that if they were Muslims, and the hijab is worn to observe Islamic dress code, then all Muslim team players would need to wear a hijab.
AOG - have you still not worked out that Muslims (like Christians) have different rituals according to their sect.

The hijab is not worn by all Muslims (as I am sure you must be aware), just as not all Christians wear crosses.
As I said, they'll be fine as long as they abide by the regulations.
this sounds like a gender matter rather than a religious one: if male Muslim teams were banned there'd be a stink. But women, who needs 'em. Quite what the safety issues are with headscarves, who knows?
I heard a caller on the radio talking about this today. He said if they were in Hijabs, they could go in at half time and a completely different team could come out and you wouldnt know!!!!
They could all be blokes. But they'd still be rubbish.
I can't see how it can be a gender issue. I imagine the same ruling must apply to Sikh men and their turbans.

Grasscarp, that's a very good point.
Hi Naomi. The observation made me fall about laughing and I dont usually laugh that early in the day!
Well, I must admit it wasn't something that occurred to me - but it's a thought. Haaa. :o)
Rules are rules but where is the rule banning the hijab?
You can't expect to find a new rule in a list of old ones. It's obviously just been added.
With regards to the comment that different players could come on at half-time, it shows the ignorance of the person making that comment since the face is clearly visible.
law 4 is clear.

but i dont really see the issue myself.

Oh dear. How different your attitude is when the rules don't work your way. Never mind. At least we know you agree that rules are rules.
