After 49 years of it I tend to agree!!!!
I'd love to have been married to the same bloke for 49 years - all that history together - fabulous
i'm 34 been married for ummm...nearly 17 years. not outdated, but if you do it, you have to work bloomin' hard at it! x
Does ummmm know? - she posts on here regularly!
lardhelmet,I've been with her for 57 years, met at school.
I think marriage will become a thing of the past, too many couples end up divorced these days, afterall, you dont need a gold band to stay commited to someone....as long as there is love and trust.
Oh Ever - that's smashing - good for you. How will you be celebrating your Golden?
Sometimes you get it wrong before you find the right one - I know I did.
lardhelmet,Probably a "do" at the local Club, Wife won't go anywhere foreign as she is a typical home-bird although we went to Dublin for our 40th. courtesy of my lovely Daughter. It's Wedding Anniversary tomorrow (St.Patrick's Day) so It was a bit of a lie saying 49 years, strictly speaking it's 49 years tomorrow.
Been married 60 years in August and I'll agree you really do have to work hard at it but worth it in the long run.
Congratulations Everhelpful. I don't think it's outdated at all, still plenty of people tying the knot. I'd do it all again, don't regret a single minute.
I was only joking,rocky.
Congrats Ever - enjoy it.
Coming from someone who has been married, now divorced, it would be easy for me to dish out negative comments about marriage, but I totally agree that it is an outdated concept. My ex-wife and I weren't even religious. It was wrong of us to get married in the first place, not just because of two atheists being inside a church, but because we weren't right together. Another year of living together without having married would have resulted in the same outcome, only with less paperwork. I've been with my new girlfriend for 6 years now and neither of us want to do 'it' again, she also being a member of the 'Divorce Club'. We have a great life together, we wear commitment rings to acknowledge each other's trust, and all is well. I'd love the idea of young couples in love acknowledging each other with wedlock for the very reason of why marriage was 'invented' in the first place, and a huge percentage of those couples to last it out, but it would be naive to think like that. It's just not the case, as we all know. I raise my hat to all of you who have done it and are still happy but it is of no exaggeration for me to say that I have lost count of all those I know who have had a failed marriage. My two sisters and my girlfriend's two sisters are on the list, and make a depressing point.
Thanks, lardhelmet. must go now She is yelling for her Coffee and Tablets.!!
Been married nearly 4 years and couldn't be happier.
