Had to have my little dog put to sleep yesterday evening. It never gets any easier even after having lost many dogs and cats over the last 40+ years

Sorry to hear that LL.
I am sorry to hear your news, it is always sad to loose a beloved friend.
me too LL, awful thing to have to do but we are the selfish ones holding on to the little mites, I was and he was ready to give up the fight but oh, how I miss him ♥
Oh lofty - I'm so sorry about that - it never gets any easier does it !
I had my lovely golden lab put to sleep in Oct. It still hurts I still miss him. I still light a candle beside his photo most evenings. It will get better but you never forget. Hope this helps
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge - .

"When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…"

Thanks my friends. He had a massive liver tumour but we didn't know. It was only just over a week ago that he was sick and didn't want to eat. Apparently the tumour had been there for a long time but hadn't caused him any problems until it grew to the size where it pressed on his tum. He was 14/15. We decided that it would be kinder to let him go whilst he was still not in pain although it was so so sad seeing him want to eat but unable to do so.

Broke our hearts letting the little fellow go - but for the best. There was nothing that could be done for him. Just the one little dog now, and she doesn't seem to be missing him thank goodness.
Oh no !!!

It is always hard when a close family member dies. You know that you made the right decision, but even knowing that will not make it any easier.

Take care.

Susan
Yes I have tears reading it again. Some days I feel he is still here . Door bell rings I am waiting for him to bark and lots of little things. Post man leaves his bike up road a bit he spotted it and started barking to get out to meet him then he would walk up and down the paths with him. and carry the mail.To nearly his last day he wanted to go to the post man and even he was upset . yea I know exactly how you feel.

What I missed last night was him getting under feet all the time I was trying to cook. I was always cursing him. He just loved food to the extent that he would rush to the oven door when I took the food out. Used to really worry me. I am really surpised he didn't catch fire!!

He was a rescued dog who had been treated so badly. He was the the most gentle and good natureed little fella that you could ever meet.

This was at Christmas time:

Is it a yorkie terrior . I used to have one many years ago and a cairn terrier.
The problem I have is I have a hannes macaw and she shouts his name and says (come on go and wee wees)
Question Author
Well yes, he was a big Yorkie! Not sure whether he had anything else mixed in with him! He certainly wasn't a yappie little dog (except when he demanded food!)

I love birds but unfortunately have a really severe allergy to parrots, chickens and pigeons and have to avoid them at all costs :o(
