he doesn't seem to be a druggie, ahmskunnirt, just mentally ill.

From the BBC:

Reprieve said Dr Peter Schaapveld, a forensic psychologist, believes it was very likely that Mr Shaikh's strange behaviour was "influenced or caused by" his mental illness.

It said Chinese experts have joined Dr Schaapveld in calling for a proper mental health evaluation.

The charity claims Shaikh has always maintained he went to China to start a career as a pop star, despite no history of public singing, having previously lived in Poland where he tried to set up an airline.

It says he was duped into carrying a bag for someone who claimed to be able to give him work in a nightclub, only for police to find the heroin when he landed in China.

... pop star, airline entrepreneur... seems questionable, to say the least; but I don't pretend to know the full story.
That's what happens with bipolar. In many cases anyway.
it's true........Kerry Katona is bi-polar and she thinks she's famous......
Lol Craft...

I don't think her case is that severe...

I know someone with bipola and their mind is ok. If anything this story is making bipola sufferers come across as mentally insane. My friend is livid that is the way it is being portrayed.

As for the guy. Unfortunately, when you are abroad you are bound by overseas laws even if that means being executed. Over the top punishment for the crime though.

Look at it this way, if he was that ill as the family keep saying then 1. why wouldn't they have stopped him from travelling 2. wouldn't the airline have stopped him from getting on the plane.
From medical documentation if he really has bi-polar then this is a sad case. Just the kind of victim drug dealers target is harrowing. The 'Banged Up Abroad' programmes have shown many different people from different backgrounds undertaking these risks for absurb reasons which at the time the people thought the risk was worth taking.
China are sending out the message that they will not tolerate this activity whatever a person's circumstances.

People have to realise the consequences of being 'drug-mules'.
Too right. And this individual is about to realise the consequences of trying it in China.

I suffer from bipolar disorder, I was diagnosed in 1997 and have taken medication to try and 'control' the illness and my behaviour since then. It is a much misunderstood illness - people understand the concept of depression but not the mania and psychosis.

However this guy broke the law and had to be punished. Isn't it weird how all British people arrested abroad are either innocent or 'ill'.

Wolf63 - using my cat's username.
craft1948 - Kerry Katona should be executed!!!
This guy had a lot of family go out and see him prior to his execution.

Where were they when this mentally fragile man was duped into 'pop stardom' in China?

Surely one of them would have thought:

"Hang on, our Dad/Brother/Cousin/Relative Akmal is in no mental position nor does he have the prior credentials to become a pop star in China. Think I'll do him a favour and hide his passport till all this blows over".

Just a thought.
why do people do wrong and then expect to 'run free' when caught? there's always pay-back sooner or later.
Is there ANY evidence that he has been treated for Mental illness ?
well Haggis if you feel strongly about it I won't argue with you..........
British man my elbow! , well done China
