Very many shops do this, ranging from Domino's Pizza to John Lewis and beyond. In addition to national chains, there are also local businesses in different NHS regions that offer discounts. It's not easy to get a complete list as they can change from time to time - e.g. Evans and Burton don't do it any more. But wherever you're shopping, there's no harm in asking.
have a look at the link it provides lots of discounts.

http://www.nhsdiscounts.com

also have a look on NHSmail if your able to use the nhs website that should tell you what shops you can get discounts from.

argos i know you can and debenhams.
How come NHS staff get discounts?
Boo, because they do such a stellar job for below average wages.

Have to say I sometimes accidentally on purpose mumble NUS and get the NHS discount instead at Dominos :-)
I know Debenhams don't give it, and I am not knocking NHS staff, but before they built the new Wigan Debs., the car park next to it was used exclusively during the week for free NHS stafff parking and a stream os mini buses ran them up to the hospital for free, actually that all still happens but Debs closed and opened a brand new store with an adjacent car park, in which all the local authoroty staff from wigan council get free parking monday to friday!!!

apparently anyone who works in wigan that isn't working for the NHS or WBC earn enough to pay to park their cars.

whats the discount at dominos
dominos discount is 50%, at least it is at our store. The only thing is your order still has to be above the minimum delivery amount, which is a tenner here - that's quite a lot of pizza!
"Boo, because they do such a stellar job for below average wages."

Don't most of us?

I probably sound very ungrateful, but at the end of the day those staff chose to do that profession, and as such should accept the wages that come with it. I can think of countless jobs where they do a "stellar job" but don't recieve discounts at stores...the fire service for example....
I agree with BOO.

Bloody cheek, why should NHS staff get discounts

As Public Sector workers, their pensions are guaranteed, not so Private Sector workers, so again they are advantaged.
"Boo, because they do such a stellar job for below average wages. "...some do, some don't.

Disgusting
Not sure if your post is tongue in cheek there sqad, considering your past job ;-)

Anyhoo, my opinion still stands, I fail to see why that profession alone (unless there's others?) recieve discounts at stores.
BOO....no it is not tongue in cheek.......something new to me.
Sqad, explain why you think it is disgusting???
I think you'll find most of the deals available can be found on the net somewhere. they're often very small % discounts that most people could wangle out of most shops/businesses.
dh001....I have partly already explained......Public Sector workers have had their pensions guaranteed, even through the recession, not so the Private sector.

Why should doctors, GP's hospital workers get discount in shops?

Why not Postal workers, factory workers, road sweepers, refuse collectors........why NHS staff?
Sqad: Lots of businesses offer their employees discounts, shares, allsorts. Most Unions offer their subscribers discounts etc.

If i owned a business say a Gym, I would approach the large organisations and offer their staff a discount for obvious reasons.

Boo hopefully that answers your question regarding other professions getting discounts.
dh.....I can understand employers offering discount to employees in their own business as a sort of loyalty offering.............but what have the NHS staff done for Dorothy Perkins? If they were working for Dorothy Perkins then I would have no objection. "All they have to do is to produce their NHS badge"....what a joke.....that badge will have been passed around a few "NHS staff"

Your Gym.....would offer discounts for ANY large organisations.............not just our Nationalised Health Service.

Sorry.......appalled.
Can you just imagine the reaction of the Unions if BUPA or PPP offered discounts to NHS staff..........!!!
Sqad. There is massive competition in business, its only sense to target big organisations to entice their staff to shop in their stores. Its not just the NHS who have this scheme.
dh....I quite understand that, but I cannot think of any other organisation from "shops" and certainly not Dorothy Perkins.....can you?
I know the police, f-brigade, armed forces do. I understand that Union members have discount schemes and most large private businesses.

The NHS are not offered discount because of the job they do its all about trying to target customers.
