is the news thats mainly featured on your local itv news about trivial things such as a dog that fostered an owl or a child who got all of the cub badges possible?

Oh don't get me started about our local news on ITV.
We used to really enjoy it. And yes we had stories about dogs, and birds, and kids doing good things as well as harder news stories. We have quite a few murders, so think yourself lucky that you have dogs capable of fostering owls to fill the spaces left by your lack of murders.
But at least it was all about the East Midlands. Now, to save cash, we have been lumped together with the West Midlands and have got to listen to stories about Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry. We have got even more murders now.That is like a foreign country to me. I am sure they must be just as fed up with tales of Leicester, Nottingham and Peterborough.
We don't care if we miss it now, we watch East Midlands news on BBC.

our local radio station is the same trish...it is apparently called bbc radio stoke but the main news stories are concerning crewe and nantwich [some 30 odd miles away] with the odd story about a cat being stuck in a tree in our area thrown in for good measure......the central news is the same on the t.v......agree with you 100%
As I recall, the regional ITV programme for East Anglia and its BBC counterpart, Look East, are primarily focused on Norfolk/Suffolk with occasional forays into Cambridgeshire/Huntingdonshire.
Northamptonshire was usually ignored.........too far West to be in East Anglia and too far East to be in the Midlands.......

We have Granada which covers Manchester and Liverpool etc... so quite a lot of grim news though they do try to find some nice stories as well though.
Saying that, remember watching the local news when staying with a friend in London and it was worse.
Leeds news wasn't great either when I lived there, especially having grown up in Shropshire and living in Wales for 4 years. Much different news there :)

Here in the South the BBC focus seems to be on reporting on apparently stupid things that local councils have done or giving Mr/Ms. Angry unnecessary airtime to raise their trivial grievance against some public body. The specialist reporter at this is called Bryony. I just wish we did get genuine good news stories.
the bbc regional news is more serious itv is just a farse.
and at the beginning of itv news it says something like
'wellcome to the anglia news from norfolk suffolk and essex.' it doesnt mention the other little counties. BUT when it goes onto a map, highlighted and with borders are norfolk suffolk and essex plus little counties next to them.
