The headteacher has resigned followed by the chair of the school's governing body in support of her, over this matter.

The visitors to this country are most welcome to all the hospitallity that we bestow upon them, but they must learn it has got to be on our terms?

If they are not happy to embrace our countries culture and traditions as their own, and integrate with the population of the country they chose to settle in, then I'm afraid to say "perhaps they would be more happy to live in a country that is more befitting their own way of life".

I have copied the following two extracts below from the Daily Mail's report, seeing that the Guardian failed to report them.

Now there are fears a move intended to unify the 240 pupils has instead split the school.

Around a fifth are from ethnic minorities, with about 35 Muslims.

Oh for gawds sake nobody can win can they. There has to be tolerance on all sides not just one and I think patience is wearing thin.
I am sure that if during this one assembly, the Christian pupils were made to recite from the Koran, that you would object to that AOG.

The Muslim parents objected to their children taking part in a Christian ceremony as I am sure Christian parents would not be happy if their children too part in Islamic rituals.
Actually they were quite happy to have inclusive assemblies that embraced British culture, but that wasn't what was being held; "Our countries culture" isn't really one thing, Britain is a nation of settlers and it always has been, Christianity is just one part of what Britain has become, a rich, multi-cultural society. A Christian child attending a school where the majority of the pupils are Muslim would not be expected to join in with any Muslim worship so why should it be different when the situation is the other way around?
Easy answer

Scrap the daily act of worship altogether.

If people want to keep up with their imaginary friend in they sky let them do it in church or mosque or synagogue or voodoo temple or whatever.

Let's simply stop contaminating our schools with superstitious tripe
I'm not surprised the Guardian failed to report "There are fears that..." It's an all-purpose phrase designed to whip up emotion but devoid of meaning. How many fears? Who holds them, exactly? Any chance that the reporter has just made them up? Surely not.

Anyway, for what it's worth, the head in question denies that the assembly affair had anything to with her resignation. Call her a liar if you wish.

but dont the Muslim children have prayer time during the day which may be seen as disruptive to others in the class?

The UK is not a muslim country and I dont see why it over-rules certain things.
No it's not a Muslim country but socially it's not a Christian country either, when pushed most people will write Jedi on the census (words from the wise Bill Bailey there) so we're obviously not that proud of our religious heritage! When I was on school experience in majority Muslim school the children had what appeared to me a normal day, I think they had worship time in the morning but that wasn't on the school grounds and they may have had some time at the beginning of lunch but lessons were never left or finished early for this purpose.
You should be absolutely delighted with the result of this AOG!! Why aren't you hopping and skipping arounf dinging the praises of common sense and this country? The head teahcer has said that this issue had absolutely nothing to do wth her resignation, and the school is running her idea for one act of worship. Hang on a second, I forgot. We wouldn't want facts, results or the general spin of the world to affect a daily bit of Islam bashing would we.

I heard they believe in our Jesus. Stealing our Jesus!! He was ours first and they can get their own.
Bloody religion again. Well said Jake-the-peg.
hee hee 'our Jesus', poor Jesus being passed around like he is, I'm sure he would have preferred to spread the love around! Was the bit about the teacher not resigning due to that issue in the article, if it was I missed it! But I'm not doubting you that that is the case if it wasn't, newspaper articles can be like that. One thing that made me stop and shout at the telly the other day was Ross Kemp in Afghanistan saying "...fighting a fanatical enemy..." of course they're fanatical, they've been invaded by one of the biggest countries in the world!! Grr! sorry got a bit angry there!
These debates go on for ever, all I will observe is that patience needs to be wearing much thinner much more quickly if Britain is not to become an Islamic state, albeit probably mild. Maybe it's what people want. It won't happen in my lifetime or my childrens' but one thing I might live to see will be selected areas choosing to implement Sharia Law. You may find that driving into Bradford, Leicester, or parts of London, you will see road signs "You are now entering an area of Sharia Law. Peace unto you, keep your women veiled and NO ********"
Oh dear, it missed the punchline P O O F T E R S
(If I was writing an obscenity robot, the first string manipulation I would do would be to strip out all white space).
Every time a muslim prays baby Jesus cries

Didn't you know that?
I agree with Jake. Religion has no place in schools.
that will limit where you go then Gormless wont it. lol and you are that much in the closet that you claim to have children. Everyone is RIGHT you ARE funny :)
Obcenity Robot? - Is that like R2D2 with tourette's?

Where is there a country that is most free of religion? Us normal people who want to live in peace need somewhere to go.
There is no room for prayer in public school, just as there is no place for facts in organized religion!
But Baby Jesus doesn't exist, he did grow up you know :o)
