another dead baby, why are the social services full of dim lefties with no clue? 50 visits and they could spot a bruise between them. Too ready to believe the parents. They recruit these numpties out of the Guardian, is it one of those paradoxes, that the people that apply for these jobs are those that are least suited to doing them? Bl00dy doctors that can't spot broken bones. WTF is occurring? The poor little sod must have been screaming his head off.

The poor child was let down badly by everyone - social workers, police, medical practitioners, family, friends and neighbours. But most of all its parents and guardians.

To single out one for blame and then make it into a political argument is unbelievably crass.
Horrible position to be in weeal. Do you think the bosses (for want of a better word) are so tied up in legalities that even though they know a child is in danger they can't do anything? To my simple mind this calls for a major overhaul of how they operate then.

Side question...why are the parents' identities being kept secret???
Tha'ts being asked elsewhere here in news SP. And I wondered that yesterday when I read the news story. They named the lodger, but not that loathsome couple?
I think its also difficult for them now due to all the red tape thats involved and human rights for every fool under the sun these days and they have got to cover their own butt.
Still tho, the law surely has to see all this and step in at some point? or governing body or whatever if a child is being physically abused like that?

I think there is far too much emphasis put on human rights for all, even the evil b@stards in the jails, it has everyone walking on eggshells saying "oh oh what shall we do" meanwhile another kiddie gets tortured to death !!!! Grrrr
Most Social Services departments have had their budgets cut, leaving the social workers with bigger case loads, & fewer of them to do the job.
I can guess who'd be the 1st to moan if their council taxes had to be increased to cover the extra cost....Some of the Daily Mail mob on here!

B0llux Gromit, most of the blame lies with social services who had, I'm now told, 60 visits. I already said the doctor were also at fault and indeed the old Bill may have had chances but this is 95% social sodding useless services.
yes, if SS are really so tied to rule books all the time then they shouldnt exist, they are getting the wool pulled over their eyes by lying criminal parents and cant do jot about it

whats the point eh
SS didn't inflict the injuries though. They just done an extremely bad job.
I saw files on families with like 5 children, all on record, the files for each child were too big to carry and go back years n years, and yet still current - where is the cut-off point??????? does it just carry on and on till the kids have kids then their kids have files too?????
why dont they stop these folk having more flaming kids? - HUMAN RIGHTS
The mother was arrested twice by the Police for child cruelty.

Yet she was let off without charge and returned to the child. That failing is not a minor role.

Maybe the Police are lefties recruited in the Guardian?
R1Geezer- sorry to disagree, but 100% of the blame lies on that poor child's parents.

To hit a child in temper once in anger, could be forgivable, but substained torture over a length of time is pure evil and wickedness. How any parent can do this to their own child is totally beyond my reasoning.
Social Services are a sinecure for those who can't get a job elsewhere. How many immigrants are there working for Harringay social Services ?
brionon

The Social Worker responsible in this case, Maria Ward and her boss Sharon Shoesmith, Children's services director both appear to be white in the photos in the Daily Mail.

Of course Boo, but if we accept that they are low life sub human scum then the next level of potential relief for the victim must be the state, ie social services. Obviously it goes without saying that there wouldn't be an issue without the parents' activities.
My God- ive just scrolled down to the pictures where it pinpoints where this baby was injured. Words really do fail me.
B00 is right, as always. The people to blame are the ones who committed the crime. Attempts to blame Guardian readers, immigrants, Uncle Tom Cobley etc seem to say more about the writers' personal prejudices than about the facts.
What rot

Yes the parents are to blame, they have been prosecuted but SS have a MAJOR role in this and heads shoudl role and prosecutions should follow.

No one has answered my question as to the education of the Saudi doctor who is incompetent to the least and should be struck off if not able to identify a broken back.

Maybe the old bill are culpable too but the main blame lies with lefty social workers. They are a bunch of useless Guardian reading t*ssers no doubt about it. Gromit I fail to see your point at all on this one. Tell me who shoudl protect a defencelss babay (spelling deliberate) then ?
Dr Al-Zayyat emerged as the scapegoat of the review as it was revealed the Saudi Arabian trained doctor should have diagnosed the abuse.

She saw Baby P on August 1 at St Ann's Hospital, Tottenham, where she was a locum consultant paediatrician. She allegedly failed to miss his broken back because she did not carry out a full examination of the 17-month-old, despite him being on the Child Protection Register.

Dr Jane Collins, chief executive of Great Ormond Street, said today: "Our considered view based on the evidence of the independent review was that Dr Al-Zayyat should have entertained the possibility that [Baby P] suffered non-accidental injuries and should have taken appropriate action on that day.

"Whether that would have made a difference, we will never know.

"Dr Al-Zayyat's contract was not renewed by Great Ormond Street and she is currently appealing that."

Dr Al-Zayyat has now had her medical licence restricted by the General Medical Council while a complaint against her is investigated. For privacy reasons no details of this complaint can be released.

But the conditions mean all Dr Al-Zayyats work must be supervised by a consultant and she can only work for the NHS as a middle-grade paediatrician. She is also forbidden from taking up any further locum positions of less than three months.

These restrictions are imposed for 18 months or until a Fitness to Practice Hearing, at a date to be decided.

A GMC spokesman said: This doctor is not facing a formal allegation. This is an ongoing investigation. The Interim Order Panel has the power to suspend or restrict a doctors practice while an investigation is ongoing.
Ref the police, the article I read, said that this child was returned to its parents against Police wishes.

I could be wrong, but that smacks of a judgement by Social Services.
