I don't know about you, but I doubt that Global Warming is happening. Even if it is, I doubt that mankind is responsible.

For sceptics and adherents alike, please take some time to watch and absorb the words of Professor Bob Carter...

Scumfrog - I agree we're all going to die, but should you die whilst being told a whopper of a lie?

Scumfrog - "... global catastrophe?" What Global global Catastrophe? Either you've seen this lecture before or you haven't bothered to watch any of the links provided - judging by the time you took to respond.. I would like people to watch them first, then comment. No offence.
It's obvious that if people continue to cut down the rain forests, and even do "simple" things like pave over gardens and chop down hedges, then it's going to effect the amount of oxygen.
i haven't checked your links yet (its late i should be in bed, but i will have a look tomorrow!)
, but i have been reading and checking out a lot of info about this subject recently, and i don't believe we are suffering from global warming, just as we didn't suffer from global cooling in the seventies,

what interests me is the constant mention of co2 and how we "should lower emissions"

my response to this is, what do plants "breathe in" ???
and what do they "breath out"????
so, surely, if we lower the co2 in the air, we will suffocate the plants, then there will be no food for us and the animals we (well others I'm veggi!) eat

something else I'm interested in is chem-trails, i don't understand this subject too well yet so cant comment but its very interesting,
oh, and of course if there are no plants to give out oxygen..........!!!!
Oh for goodness sake give it up!

Dragging out the same few voices all the time.

He featured heavilly in the "great global warming swindle" program which has been so heavilly discredited.

Even George Bush now says Global warming is real and man made.

But Birdie if you don't think global warming is happening at all - well you're a bit on an endangered species in yourself.

So why don't you tell us where all the goddam glaciers are going!

Oh and while I'm on the subject it is worth noting that Carter isn't a simple Scientist he's political too.

He's a member of the right wing Australian Institute of Public Affairs.

Carter has some interesting views:

the role of peer review in scientific literature was overstressed, and whether or not a scientist had been funded by the fossil fuel industry was irrelevant to the validity of research. "I don't think it is the point whether or not you are paid by the coal or petroleum industry," said Professor Carter. "I will address the evidence."

He is of course an expert in Marine Biology not Climate science

Because this global warming thing inconveniences me ever so slightly (recycling etc), I have come to the conclusion that it isn't happening.

To that end, I have looked it up on the internet and gobbled up anything that helps me to believe this - however discredited or crackpot it might be.

Look! Look at these links!

donella - yes plants do take in CO2 and produce oxygen, but they cannot keep up with the current rate of production of CO2, so its concentration in the atmosphere is increasing. This enhances the greenhouse effect and raises the average global temperature. No-one is advocating removal of all the CO2, just a restoration of the balance that prevailed for thousands of years before we started burning fossil fuels.
trees are interesting though.

Yes they take Carbon from the atmosphere but you have to ask what happens to that carbon after.

If it's harvested as wood it will eventually end up burnt or worse still rotting.

Also deciduous trees that drop leaves and rot will be adding methane to the environment which is a far far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.

So before you get excited about the "lungs of the planet" and start planting broardleaf deciduous oak forests to off set your flight to the states - remember it's often a bit more complicated than some people would have you believe!
Like an alcoholic or other drug addict those addicted to coal and oil will continue to deny there is a problem.

Even the oil suppliers are saying there is a problem. All the science backs it. Stop debating, wake up from your drug induced coma and start working toward change.

Only a fool would try to pretend emitting trillions of tons of carbon dioxide isn't making a difference to the amount of heat being retained at the surface of the earth. Remember that half of what has been added has been since 1975, the rate of release has never been higher and it is accelerating.
jake taking sides with Dubya??! Now THAT is scary!.

Here we are in the middle of October and I have still not had to turn my heating on.

If that's what global warming means then I'm all for it.
This has been aired many times before on AB. There are two distinct camps and jake and others will never agree with me and others. The last time it had an outing was, I believe, here:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Science/Questio n621137.html

However, just to liven up this latest debate, my response to jakes assertion that even Dubya admits Global Warming is real and man-made is that he would wouldnt he? Hes seen the same fantastic revenue raising opportunities as most other politicians have, and even the US now needs much more of its citizens hard-earned than hitherto.

Also, of course, this same man warned us of weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq. (Total found so far to the nearest whole number, er..... nil).
Birdie says it ain't true. So that's OK,then.
*crosses fingers and scrunches eyes closed really really tight*

It isn't happening! It just isn't! It's a conspiracy! It's a revenue scam! Please!
It is very cold here.
