While this is in the Daily Mail so you have to be careful I do agree that the recent uncontrolled and unmanaged immigration has been an absolute disaster for this country.

I had to go up to central Birmingham a few days ago and to be honest it was like going to another country like Pakistan.

Asians, blacks and other immigrants everywhere, loads of women in muslims shawls, loads of women in burkhas.

I felt a stranger in my own country and I hated it.
So in that 10 year period, there have been new 1,200,000 immigrants.

And at the same time the number of people claiming unemployment benefit has fallen by 1,052,000.

That sounds like a lot more people paying taxes and paying for the pensioners, NHS, Education.

Here ends the Political Broadcast for the limp wristed namby-pamby, head in the sand, looney lefty Party.
Liam Byrne looks like that Nazi baddie from Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
Yes Grommit but you don't understand

Regardless of whether or not they pay taxes - vhelpful guy does not like seeing a lot of Pakistanis in his country!

I think you're offering logic to an emotional response
Which says it all about the NIMBY mindset of the Tories.

The unemployment rate was 5.4 per cent for the three months to June 2008, up 0.2 over the previous quarter but unchanged over the year. The number of unemployed people increased by 60,000 over the quarter and by 15,000 over the year, to reach 1.67 million.

The claimant count was 864,700 in July 2008, up 20,100 over the previous month and up 10,900 over the year. The Claimant Count has increased over the month in all regions of the UK

AOG,
The Mail article and your question are about Labour's time in office (1997 - 2008).

That is why I referred to immigration going up 1,200,000 and unemployment going down by a similar amount during that specified period.

So why do you start quoting figures for the last quarter (3 months in 2008)? Please read your own question and link.

Just to shatter the myth that we have an 'Open-door' immigration policy, I found this...

Today's figures (20th May 2008) confirm the UK Border Agency continues to remove an immigration offender every eight minutes. In the first three months of this year 3,025 failed asylum seekers, including dependants, were removed from the UK, up from 2,965 in the last quarter of 2007. On top of this, Home Office figures show that another 13,740 illegal immigrants, excluding asylum seekers, were removed in the same period - a big increase of 20 per cent on the same period last year.

Can you explain why 13,740 were removed from this country if Open Door is operated?

Anybody know how much housing, council tax, child benefit allowances and other freebies has gone up since we were swamped with immigrants?

Oh, and how much extra is it costing the NHS and other agencies?

Oh, and how many Council houses have gone to the immigrants on their arrival, when genuine British people have been waiting for years, and some still in inadequate housing?

Don't get me started...........!!!!!!!!!
Immigrants are great.

Bring more in. More hard working Poles. More Asian shopkeepers. More people who don't sit around all day claiming the dole and breeding kids simply so that they can...

...no let's not drag this into the gutter.

Been to Birmingham - loved the place. I tend to worry more about exclusively white places....always a air of danger in the air in those suburban towns on a Friday night.

You know what I mean...the kinds of places you see on Booze Britain. Young girls with their skirts hitched up peeing the gutter. Lads tooled up for fights.

Scary places.
sp1814,

What colour is the majority of people who have been stabbed and shot in the UK, and the colour of the people who were the culprits?
Rtaxron

The answer to both is 'white' and 'white'.

Strange question.

Sorry...just pulling ya leg. If you take the whole history of Britain, the answer to both questions is what I've given.
Rtaxron

By the way, what would be dead interesting would be to see a countrywide picture of stabbing/shooting victims...this would of course have to include traditionally rough places such as Nottingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and parts of Northern Island.

The problem with looking at the figures across the country is that they generally don't support the view which I think you're trying to express.
Have a think about that, and if you can, see if you can find some figures.

I have to log off now because there's an excellent documentary about the history of surgery on BBC4 and I really want to watch the rest of it.

...from behind a cushion.

Nighty night.
Same old people on the same old sides of the same old arguments.......
Your right 2020 all the politicians do in this country is talk and no action. The antis drown out the positives so nothing is done. The human rights act gives more power to the immigrants than to the resident population. How many I wonder of British citizens would prefer a 1 party state where nothing is discussed and all these freeloaders get booted out of the country pronto? Put me on the list!
