Ok there are a few cases where certain conditions exacerbate the problem but Perlease 99.99% of cases are self inflicted, eat too much, move too little you get fat! Why is this equation so difficult to grasp? Why do people seek to shift blame when the answer is clear? I know as well as anyone that you have to manage weight by diet and exercise, I'm not exactly svelte but I don' t blame anyone but myself if I put some weight on!

Well Toby as It's my question! I go to the Gym across from my office I do approx 90mins most lunch times and usually have a game on Saturday. My workout includes weight training but I have at least 30 mins cardio. I'm no where near my ideal BMI the last time I was I was about 13!
Blimey Loosehead... Shouldn't you be dead? =P
From someobody who just admitted having an eating disorder thats a bit harsh isn't it ChocolatChip?
Yes, probably, I'm sorry.
Just sprung into my head at the time.
Loosehead, you may not be your ideal BMI, but I bet you are, and look, fit and healthy! I admire you... when I exercise I not only lose weight, but I feel fantastic and am able to cope with anything. My problem is I cannot keep it up and slip back into my 'lazy' ways (which I call relaxation after a busy day!!)
Office Job,90 minutes plus for Lunch ?

Do they not have flexitime on your planet then Zen? in fact total break = 2hrs pretty much.
Unfortunately, we in the UK live in a society in which nobody takes responsibility for their own actions/deeds - trip over a loose paving stone and it's someone else's fault, not yours for not looking where you were going, fall off a ladder and blame someone else for not training you in its proper use etc etc ad nauseum. Sue tobacco companies for making you smoke - it's not your fault! Sue confectioners for making attractive cakes and sweets that make you fat and ugly!

Whatever happened to people being responsible for their own lives - the NANNY STATE is what happened!!! This is why we now have a generation of politically-correct, non-thinking, fat-bellied, work-shy scroungers (bit of an exaggeration and generalisation there, but never mind, eh!)
No,never even been invented when I first started work in the 1960s.
Make the most of it !!
Obese people eat to much or drink to much or both, years ago when people blamed being fat on their metabolism, they were asked , "how many fat people came out of Belson", everyone should be responsible for their own weight, there is plenty of help and advise available for everyone, but it is hard work to lose weight and even harder to keep off,
Toby, currently I am 16weeks pregnant so my exercise has changed dramatically - I incorporate a 15walk every day and I swim 50lengths at a time whenever I can - at the moment I am so tired I am sometimes only going once a week though. However, before I fell pregnant I went to a 90minute yoga class, 1x 50 length swim and a Body Pump (resistance weights training) class as a minimum per week, if I had time I would do a 2nd Body Pump class and use the gym plus I have a 15minute walk every day (I get off the bus5 stops early). I'm looking forward to when I get my energy levels back and I can begin doing a bit more, although I still eat healthily I am definitely putting on weight (and not just through baby), my muscle definitely is fading and I am getting "softer" around the edges :-)

Exactly Marvelman, my grandad used to say that. There are conditions that make losing weight difficult, there are none that circumvent the laws of physics!
Natalie - Congratulations - is this your first baby?! I was always very thin and fairly active, but when I became pregnant I put on 5 1/2 stone - due to medical reasons I wasn't able to walk around much for the whole 9 months. (it didn't help that I had a craving for full fat milk and drank it by the gallon!!)
