Its reported in the papers today that Ian Huntley's minder earns just short of 60k a year for looking after him. When we live in a society today who pay their firemen, nurses, police etc a pittence surely this is a bit of an excessive pay check. Something somewhere is very wrong if people get away with this.

any opinions??

What Huntley he did was abhorrent and despicable, but we do not have corporal punishment for criminals in this country, so we have to prevent it being meted out vigilante style. Yes it is expensive, no it isn't fair that nurses, police officers etc get paid less than the minder, but the world isn't a fair place. Being Ian Huntley's minder must be a very difficult job, hardly at the top of most people's career choices, so it has to attract a high salary. What would you have as an alternative? The fact that nurses etc earn less, is really a different arguement - they should be paid more regardless of what anybody else earns.
I was all set to write my arguement and opinons, but kaggs has expressed them perrfectly, so I don't have to! Thanks kags.

kags and Andy, i completely understand your point of view, thanks for putting it across. It just seems a mad world we live in.
It is indeed a mad world and I also agree with kags. I am going to stick my neck out here (no pun intended) and say it is another reason why they should bring back hanging.
You could never pay me enough to do that job. As for the re-introduction of the death penalty - I believe that life is the sentence, as uncomfortable as it can be, so that the perpetrator can reflect on their crime. I hold on to the 'what goes round comes round' philosophy and that ultimately we all pay for our crimes.
What if Mr Minder goes on strike like the Fireman wasters ?
Personally, I think Huntley and his like should be used for medical research instead of animals. Save the poor animals suffering and speed up medical research by experimenting on humans directly. I know this smacks of what the Natzis did to the Jews but at least Huntley and his ilk would be contributing to society for a change and if the experiments go wrong then so be it.....tough titty, one less sicko in the world (in the name of science of course) I'm realy a quiet placid person but this kind of thing really gets to me.
