so the government has spent �13,000 on protecting the identities of little jamie bulgers killers.let their identities be known so hopefully they get their comeuppance i say.or better still they should have been hung no matter how old they were.they knew what they were doing.i feel so sorry for the family because justice was NOT done.

For �13,000 you could raise a whole lynch mob consisting of literally thousands of ignorant f-wits, ready to dole out their kangaroo-court justice to help this nation of ours.
And you'd still have enough left over for a bag of chips and a phone call to ITV Play for every one of them.

Totally agree with stokeace, if Jamie was my boy,then until my dying day i would be hunting these lowlifes and real justice would be dished out. And any hand wringing, po faced members of the PC brigade who come on here saying thats not right, then just imagine god forbid if it was your child.And i believe its only a matter of time anyway before they get their comeuppance and i hope its slow and very very painful.
A criminal justice system that takes horrific little deviant 10 year olds and turns them into well-behaved, responsible adults then that's a good thing in my book.
If it was my kid that had been killed, I'd want to exact slow horrible revenge. Human nature. But I don't think we should build our criminal justice system around destructive emotions like that.

NJOK - Your enlightened opinions, devoid of any subjectivity are a cause of my admiration, and you do try to be completely fair. I have trouble trying to see any element of deterrence in the case so far. Albert Kirby, the policeman in charge of the case, also disagreed with the sentencing.

Every once in a while there's a crime which causes the nation to convulse (something Andrew Marr talked about on his History Of Modern Britain last night).
Mary Bell was one, the Moors Murderers was another, and so were the Yorkshire Ripper and Venables/Thompson.
I reckon part of the need that people have to exact revenge on these people is the prompted by the need to expel them from existance, because people feel that they're an abomination...a corruption of all that is 'true and right'.
But you know what? Jon Venables and Robert Thompson absolutely have to have their identities protected because if they don't some 'righteous avenger' (who has s*d all to do with the case) will kill one of them...and then he will be put in prison for a long time, and what will happen to kid wife and kids?
We're protecting people who don't have the mental facilities to protect themselves as much as we're protecting the identities of Jon Venables and Robert Thompson.
Would any of you want your mate to go to jail for 25 years because he found out the address of Venables or Thompson?

These 'oribble little b'stards should never have been released from prison, but fed dried bread & stagnant water until they shrivelled up & died.
They are now living the life of Riley, albeit hidden away, whilst Jamie's grieving parents & family are left to pick up the pieces.
All these 'be gentle with them' do-gooders, need their brains tested!

I think that these cases bring out the most extreme reactions in people - which is perfectly understandable.
However, aside from the emotions raised, we have to think seriously about the actions, and conseqeunces involvd, not only in the case itself, but the proposed 'punishments' being mooted here on this site.
As a parent, i can fully sypmathise with the gut reactions of people who want to hit back at the causes of such omnumnetal mental anguish for an innocent family, but remember - laws are what make us civilised. the kind of lynch-mob mentality has no place in a civilised society which must deal with its aberations in a structured and thought-out way. Other than to to this leads to anarchy - vigilanteism and lawlessness.
How would I feel if it was my child? Destroyed, but not vengeful - such emotion is simply destructive, and solves nothing - even for the family involved - much less for complete strangers who are simply venting their own feelings on an issue of which they understand only the media perception.

Hi Andy - I can see where you are coming from & yes, you are quite right, as always, we should leave it to the law & courts to decide offender's fates/futures.
Like others & as a parent & grandparent, emotions can run high, 'specially when innocent men, women, children & animals come to that, are harmed by senseless people.
So maybe I shouldn't have written to 'feed them with stale bread & stagnant water', but to serve them 'cream teas' instead.
Must learn to be more tolerant of these wasters in society.
