Probably not. What about the RAC spokeman, who should know better, whos said
"A spokesman for the RAC Foundation said: "We can see the case for a 20mph limit in areas where there are a lot of pedestrians or vulnerable groups but to have a blanket limit runs the risk of discrediting it. People might not see when they are in an area where it is needed."
Surely the thing is that - after years of driving with a 30 mph limit in towns - people get a 'feel' for what that is like. That is, they know without too much speedometer-checking when they're going over it.
When, all of a sudden, that limit becomes a quite unfamiliar regular speed of 20 mph, drivers are obviously going to spend far more time looking down at the dashboard than usual. This will apply until that becomes the familiar speed-limit. If you're lookin' down, you ain't lookin' out!
The man's actually got a point. It's such a ludicrously low speed I'd imagine you'd have to drive with your eyes glued to the speedo keeping a featherlight touch on the accelerator to ensure that you don't exceed it.
What next? a man walking in front of the car waving a red flag perhaps.
Sorry -if you are such a poor driver that you have to Glue your eyes to the speedo in order to comply with the limit you shouldn't be driving. If I can do it ,anyone can.
Well, they fit those things as standard in every car so i guess they have a purpose. I always thought it was to check what speed you're going at so as to make sure you're within the limit.
If you can do that without consulting the instrument, well done - personally I can't.
