Why dont those parents who are protesting give their offspring sandwich's if they object to halal?
I prefer my meat to be slaughtered in a humane way, I disagree with the way Muslims + Jews use halal as a means of slaughtering their meat, but no-one is going to force me to eat it, there are always solutions to the problem
The school is using meat fae animals killed in a legal way so I can't see what the problem is. Reading the report, the school carried out a survey and the majority view was the one accepted, democracy at work.
It's about time these Bl***Y yogurt knitting, sandal wearing, Guardian reading school teachers were sorted out.

Our schools should be teaching their pupils the British way of life, how else can we hope to get full intrigration, with those that choose to settle in Britain?
Corbyloon, how can you say its democracy in forcing anothers religion on anyone even in a minority as i believe the christian part of the school appears to be
druiaghtagh
is that like forcing the labour party on the rest of us because it's the will of the majority of voters at the last election
Sorry TCL, im not answering for you, just gie ing you a wee helpin haund
Since when has eating halal meat made anyone become Islamic? Would you be happier if the meat were sourced fae different suppliers no doubt at extra expense? We are talking about the method of killing animals not the way the children are taught or what they are taught.

Thanks jl I was watching the rugby. YEEHA!!!!!!!!!!

As the school already offers the choice of halal or vegetarian why can't they offer a third choice of traditional British food.

Sandwiches are an option, but why should a whole group of children be forced to only have a cold meal at dinner-time ? and are the teachers going to go through the lunch boxes taking out what they consider to be unhealthy?

I think it is wrong to force a different diet on someone, it is not a democratic decision to do so, either accomodate all pupils or change to a diet no-one at the school has ie Eskimo
Do you think that "traditional British food" (pork excepted) can't be halal? What do you consider the food to be?
By traditional British food I mean food where the meat [including pork], has been killed in a slaughter house in a humane way and not have its' throat slit and allowed to bleed to death.

Although the article doesn't say I wonder if part of the problem is the dishes they are making with the halal meat, are the children being served braised beef and vegetables, lamb hotpot or cottage pie, or is it rice with curry or cous cous based dishes every day.

Ah, so it's an animal-welffare issue rather than an anti-Muslim protest?
America does not have this problem, when people want to go to live in America they have to accept the American way of life, they dont pamper to anyone, children are raised the American way, if they dont like it , back home they go. pity we dont do the same, people come here they get housed, fed, free medicine, a house, money, and what do they do, try to change our way of life to theirs. but it is only because they are allowed to, no wonder we are the laughing stock of the world.

Have you actually been</> to America?

I ask, because, if you've been to, say, New York, you can enjoy the wonder of Chinatown and Little Italy, which by definition of their names are 'foreign' whilst simultaneously being completely 'American'.

Also, when immigrants to the States first went over, they didn't adopt local customs.

If they did</> there would've been no fighting between 'cowboys and injuns'.
sp1814, yes i have been to America, several times, and shall be going again this year. we have the wonder of Chinatown and little Italy in London, i dont see your point , what has that got to do with immigrants coming to this country getting all the benifits and then trying to change our culture into theirs, as i have said they could not do it in America, or France, or Germany, what do cowboys and indians have to do with it .

I....am....literally....speechless.

I give up.

I really do.
Welcome to Britanistan
According to the Department for The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, approximately 0.5% of poultry sold in the UK is organic.

That means that the vast, vast majority of poultry is sold with no guarantees as to the welfare of the birds. Many are kept in horrifically cramped and damp conditions with little or no ventilations. Often, their beaks are removed to stop them pecking each other. Their lack of movement leads to muscle wastage and severe stress.

And yet an overwhelmingly huge majority of consumers buy non-organic chicken because to be honest, we're not really that bothered.

Yet suddenly here we are wringing our hands over the way in which cows and sheep are slaughtered. We've never given a toss before now.

So is it really animal welfare we're concerned with? Or are we just finding some other anti-Muslim thing to whinge about?

NJOK

There's that loud metallic sound again!

The sound of someone hitting the nail on the head. Well done mate.

Hands up who could tell halal meat from non-halal if put on a plate in front of them?

Anyone?

Tell you what these people should be protesting about...it's the EU laws which allow a chicken or turkey only the space of a sheet of A4 paper for 16 weeks of it's life before being slaughtered...

...but unfortunately, there's no Muslim angle on that story, is there?

Perhaps we could make up a Muslim angle...now, perhaps if we could tie bird flu and Pakistan into the story we might be onto a winner.
