actually, I receive DLA and I do pay road tax.

If you want your car to be tax exempt then that is the only car you can use.
For me I have a blue badge which means I can be taken out in any car and can use my badge.

You do not get both. It is a choice of 1 or the other.

I have a Blue badge and I also do not pay road tax. The car can be driven by me or my husband (as long as he is using it for my benefit, which he usually is!) So you can have both.
When I applied for my blue badge I was told that I could have 1 or t'other lol....
I think it's because the car is not being bought with DLA funds. We already owned a car so maybe that's why.
Question Author
No, the car is ours not motability. It is registered in the Disabled band for road tax and I have a certificate from DLA which I have to send to DVLA with the renewal form. I would look into it again if I was you.
Thank you for that Kathy :-) I will do that.
oh lol..... will they start taxing my scooter too?
Question Author
Ssssshhh! Don't give them any ideas! There aren't that many things left that haven't been banned or taxed!
I am now seriously racked off! I have just bought a lovely Audi A2, which is only 50 per year road tax, so no doubt I will end up paying more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey there Kathy,
Sign this petition as I have, it may well work?

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax

Sposed to go to no10 apparently and has to reach 750000 signatures to stop it happening.....
Question Author
I have already signed the petition. There are over 900,000 signatures now!
So they now have to sit up and take note I hope lol....
and then I hope they just look at business usage and tax them.
hmmmmm.... I'm thinking of moving to Wales as I seem to have fallen in love with the place.... getting stronger.... :-)
Question Author
We lived in Canada for three years and we loved it. If we had been younger, we probably would have gone to live there permanently. We have grandchildren now, so we wouldn't move away anyway. I actually passed my driving test whilst we were over there. Whereabouts are you beryllium?
sunny Kent hehe.... we moved from Richmond in Surrey and it's been a bit of a culture shock. But... my brother is here for now and the horses so it seemed sensible to move here....... and this house is a project.... meaning too much building work and lots of dust lol still keeps me busy.
Where are you?
Question Author
Sheffield. Originally from Chesterfield area but moved here when we got back from Canada. Husband is in the Army, currently in Northern Ireland. He is moving to the Mainland in May though.
oh wow.... I have been to Doncaster but that's the furthest I've been north lol...
is Northern Ireland peaceful now? has he been dragged over to Iraq? or Afghanistan? how do you cope with it?
Question Author
We're not far from Doncaster. It is a lot better in NI now. I lived over there for four years up to 2005 and I loved it. He hasn't had to go to Iraq or Afghanistan because he is in NI. But when he is posted there is a chance that he may have to go. I don't really want to think about it though, but if he does have to go it's part of his job and he will do it. I don't agree with the war in Iraq at all. It was nothing to do with us.
hard I know...... lets hope it's all over soon eh? :-)
sending you a cyber hug because you are as brave and as strong as him you know being a wife.

Thanks for that! It's nice to know that someone cares.
Going back to the DLA story. When I was awarded DLA, there was a form in the pack to send for a certificate to claim free road tax. You have to register the car in the disabled category. Then I was told to apply to the Council for my Blue badge. Again I had to prove I was getting DLA but I had no problems. Do you get the higher rate of mobility?
