Al Qaeda's Abu al Zarqawi was killed in an air raid earlier today, this odious creep's death was welcomed by amongst others our Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Given that this Zarqawi was a cold blooded murderer (he liked to personally behead western captives in Iraq), he effectivley had a death sentence carried out against him, shouldnt we have the death penalty re instated in Britain as whats good for the goose etc

No.

Are you suggesting that Mr Blair should be the gander?

a child was killed in it but of course that is hardly mentioned
yeah i found the fact that a innocent child was killed to be rather poignant of the whole thing really
Question Author
If Blair is happy about the death of one cold blooded killer, shouldnt he be just as entheusiastic about bringing back the death penalty for anyone found guilty of murder in the United Kingdom?
Question Author

So bob and lightof are you both saying that the raid should have been called off because there was a child nearby?

if I were a terrorist I would hide behind any kiddy around and kill and kill and kill with impunity

For someone who was bombarded he cleaned up nice.
Does any terrorist care about killing british or yank kids?
Question Author
Ember, when a bomb goes off people get killed by a pressure wave called concussion. thats what killed zarqawi
I've always been an advocate of the death penalty, so in answer to your question, Yes, and the first to try out the new Gallows should be Mr Blair himself.
JohnLambert, Thank you for that information, fortunately I have never been involved in any bombing but I always thought bits of us were blasted everywhere. Still even so I can't squeeze up the tiniest regret that he has gone, though I do consider the woman and child that was killed, probably she had no choice in allowing her home to be used, we will never know will we?

We don't know any circumstances... she may have been involved and the child may have grown up to be a suicide bomber.

There is a difference between an air strike and an execution. I know it's a shame because it doesn't fit your argument but maybe if we all try really hard we can ignore it.

Really the air strike was closer to an assassination than an execution only instead of a lone sniper with a rifle two F15s were used.

It's a shame really that they had to kill him. His memory will doubtlessly become a rallying cry. Television pictures of him cowering in a hole in the ground (a la Sadam) would doubtlessly be much more effective in undermining his organisation.

Remember the goal is a stable Iraq not revenge

To all those who think it is Ok to kill from 32000 feet and target one person and bughher the consequences if there are children around....you are imperialistic goons who get away with this kind of thought and not be equated with terrorists simply because you have might on your side. You are no better than those 7th july scum who killed our people. You have no humanity and no compassion. Remember those americans bombed a restaurant from 32000 feet and killed 70 people and flattened a whole block of families on the intelligence that saddam was eating at that place. You probably do not know what is like to have a house fall down upon you. You condone the murder of an innocent child. You are filthy dogs.
And why does our liberator Tony Blair walk down a baghdad street and lap up the adulation of the nation that he has liberated. Why does he and Bush not visit the country in broad daylight and mix with the poeple who invited his forces to deliver salvation to the masses. Ask yourself why they will not dare step in front of ordinary Iraqis??. they will be torn from limb to limb thats why.
Strong words Dom Tuk. I understand your anger and support your statements, except that calling people 'filthy dogs' is somewhat over the top.

Why was the house in East London where a suspected terrorist was preparing a cyanide laced suit bombed by an RAF plane from 30000 feet and taken out the whole street in teh bargain. Could it be because innocent people would be killed. But it is Ok to do that in Iraq is it?

OK i take back the dogs bit....but it drives me insane this unfairness when it comes to lives in other countries. A child who is orphaned/killed is perhaps the saddest thing in the world

i agree completly with you Dom Tuk

Tony Blair is of course a hypocrite like all politicians, so where's the surprise there? With regards to the woman and child that were killed I've never heard a weaker, more pathetic argument than "it might have grown up to be a suicide bomber" in my entire life. Haggisdj just where are you from and for the love of God please tell me that you don't really think that.

dom has excellent points. A terrorist is not a terrorist to himself, he's a man fighting for his country/beliefs. Just because an army wears a uniform, that doesn't make what they do right and what "terrorists" do wrong, quite the reverse sometimes and whoever kills it, a child is just as dead be it blown up by the US Army, Al-Quaeda, IRA, Bristish Army, Etta, Spanish Authorities, etc etc etc the list is infinite. Do you seriously think any parent cares where the bullets come from that kill their child? I know I wouldn't give a toss whether the men had uniforms and therefore thought they had some automatic devine authorisation, I'd just want to kill them and that's what's happening in Iraq over and over again every day and so the horror grows.

Wise words Nox. I wish I could express myself like you do! What you and Dom have said express the views of so many people. Why oh why did all this have to happen - it needn't have. My heart bleeds for the people of Iraq.
