Derr Moments

We were recently notified that electricians would be working in the area and that we would lose power for the day.  They duly turned up and off went our electricity.  A few hours later there was a tapping at the window and there stood an electrician. I opened the window and he said 'I've been ringing your doorbell but no one answered'.   'Hmmm ', said I.  'That'll be because the electricity is switched off and the doorbell works on electricity'.
 

'Oh yes!'

 

It gave us both a chuckle.

Not my experience but my late mother's many many years ago, '60s probably.  The man had come to clean the chimney and he said to Mum 'Because electricity prices have gone up so much it'll be 6d dearer.'  Mum's reply, 'You cheeky sod, it's my electricity you're using!'

She said he quite genuinely seemed not to have thought it through, no-one else had mentioned it.  Not much got past her at all.

Er indoors decided to hoover out the inside of the hoover but it would not work so she put the cover back on and the hoover worked. Puzzled she involved me and I couldn't help having a giggle. The vacuum is created by the sealed interior chamber when that is open there is no vacuum.

When we had a power cut at the railway station where I worked as a supervisor, I reached for the microphone for the PA system, apologising for the problem and assuring customers that staff would be on the platforms to assist them in the darkness.  It wasn't until I'd finished speaking that my colleague pointed out that the PA system relied upon the non-existent electricity to work!
