I have no idea what that means.

The faith allows the faithful to kill those they perceive to be enemies of Islam.  Most of the faithful don't choose to do that.

AH: "The interpretation is individual, but you can't blame an abstract concept like faith if people choose to see it as telling them it's ok to be a despicable human being." - Well I've seen some wriggling in my time but that's impressive. You seem determined to defend Islam at all costs.

TTT - I have no desire to 'defend' Islam at all.

I suggest that lumping an entire section of the population together and bundling them up with the abhorrent behaviour of a minority is illogical and unfair.

I would advance the same argument if anyone decided all Catholics must be evil because of acknowledged child abuse by a minority of its priests.

I admit to having little knowledge of Islam but it is my understanding that Imams are not appointed by any higher authority that dictates interpretation for all the believers of Islam, but they are chosen as a knowledgeable individual by those in the local area.

If so, then of course interpretation varies wildly. It is no way to manage anything, and certainly not a religion.

An extremist area will select an extremist Imam and then be taught extremism as being "right" to both adults and their impressionable children.

It seems an invitation to chaos, and a recipe for all to get tarred for the actions of some. The whole concept needs a reformation.

I don't believe that is ever going to happen, OG.

Every time I watch an extremist Imam preaching his bile, it is never to an empty hall.

Why is that?

//The prohpet himself showed the way with a 9 year old "wife"//

Without defending any holy scripture, as I believe they're all trash, in the bible, God impregnated a 14-year-old to carry his child. It's not a relevant fact.

^God impregnating a young girl is myth though, mozz.

Not in the eyes of the believers it isn't Naomi.

That doesn't matter.  It isn't an established fact whereas Mohammed's story is.

Probably a difference between a God doing something questionable to us, and a human prophet doing so.

I still stand by my belief that it's irrelevant. Pick and choosing what's written in religious texts isn't helpful, and when we do, none of them come off too well by today's morals.

These people are scum, no matter which fairytale they believe.

Mozz.  It's not picking and choosing.  You're comparing a 14 year old - who as legend would have it -  was not impregnated in the usual manner - to a 9 year old who was married to a 50 plus year old man.  At the very least there's an enormous difference between a girl of 9 and a girl of 14 which you don't appear to acknowledge so I don't see your point at all.  It certainly doesn't negate justified criticism of Mohammed.

roy: "Every time I watch an extremist Imam preaching his bile, it is never to an empty hall.

Why is that? " - good point perhaps our resident Islamophiles can help us understand that.

They serve good tea?

The faith allows the faithful to kill those they perceive to be enemies of Islam.  Most of the faithful don't choose to do that.

so they have a choice

( which we are told without doubt they dont: God controls all things.) - such is the nature of these things

roy: "Every time I watch an extremist Imam preaching his bile, it is never to an empty hall.

and every time I watch morecambe and wise there are gales of canned laughter, is it perhaps added at some time

I think we ought to be told....

No polite way to put this, Pete

What?

I think Gales was jars, of honey.
