Now I know that we must have ethnic diversity in news readers but how did this woman pass a screen test? She can't pronounce "L", says "De" instead of "the" and stumbles over sentences all the time, just waiting to see if she says "aks"! What happened to quality, like Clive Myrie, Trevor McDonut and Moira Stewart for example?

You are not the messenger on this thread, TTT.  You are not passing on another person's message you are shouting your own opinion, loud and clear.

I ask myself a couple simple questions. Is she clearly understandable? Is she able to read the autocue without stumbling? Has she a high level of journalistic integrity?

If the answer is yes to all three questions, she is fit to be a newsreader. People have accents, they don't have to speak the Queen's English (or is that the King's English now?) in order to work for the Beeb.

TTT - Do I detect the smell of burning martyr?

If you want to offer a view which is roundly trashed by everyone who responds, and then pretend they are having a go at you, rather than the indefensible nonsense you posted, you go right ahead - and enjoy exactly the same set of responses all over again.

When I said you had abandoned the thread, I didn't intend it as an invitation for you to pick up your shovel and carry on digging the hole you were in.

Haha - that seems to be his "thing" at present!

think again me old china, I'm here all week,

Question Author

Isn't goading agaist Site Rules? Oh dear Andy you'll be on the naughty step.

Question Author

It seems that people just want to accept lower standards of diction in news readers these days. A bit of accent is one thing but total mispronounciation can't be right.

TTT - Is your irony klaxon out of order?

If I looked up the word 'goading' in the dictionary, there would be a little picture of you next to it!

I am not 'goading' you in the least.

You have opened a discussion about the pronunciation skills of a news reader, and not one person has agreed with you.

Instead of simply accepting thar you are a minority of one on this, you are still banging your 'victim' drum as hard as ever.

To be clear it's not 'you', it's your opinion on this one topic.

Tomorrow, I may post total agreement with something else you say.

But that will not be about 'you' either - it will still be a view on something you've said.

Trying to make this a gang-up is diverting from the simple fact - every other poster disagrees with you  on this subject.

Why not simply accept that, instead of trying to make everyone else wrong, or against you, or 'provoking' you.

It's none of those.

You are a minority of one.

Why not live with it, save your dignity, and let it go.

See you on another thread.

Sleep well.

21:35 is goading pure and simple. I don't care how many disagree. I don't think the views are honest just deliberately contrarian. I am allowed my view. If you want to have the last word you'll have to have it then close the thread.

Do you insist still that my video link was carefully selected?

Interesting.

Everyone disagrees, not because they don't agree with your viewpoint, only because they are being awkward for the sake of it.

If that is your position, there is probably little more to be said.

Closing the thread when I have 'had the last word' would be abuse of my Moderator powers, and I will thank you not to suggest that I would abuse my power in that way.

Question Author

Isn't goading (21:35) also an abuse of moderator powers? I expect it from the usual simpletons but not from a mod. Anyway I am off to bed so if you have more twee goading remarks I will respond in the morning,  if you think I have "retired hurt" I have not.

I see the ordure spurtle's been brought down from the top of the dresser again.

Somebody needs to have a word.

TTT - 'Goading' is a matter of interpretation.

Unsurprisingly, I don't agree with your assessment,  but if you believe I have 'goaded' you,  feel free to report my post(s) for an Editorial decision.

But be aware, you can report me as an AB'er, not ad a Moderator, because my posts were not offered as a Moderator.

Once again - Moderators are not held to some higher set of rules because of yours, or anyone's perception of us as a combination of angels and school prefects.

We are neither.

Douglas - Yet again I have no idea what you are talking about.

Past experience suggests that I am better off keeping it that way.

Thank you for your input.

Congratulations Tora. It takes a very special level of self-confidence to believe that everybody in a 150+ comment thread secretly agree with you and are just being argumentative because it's you saying it.

I guess anything is better than entertaining the thought that you might just be talking out of your jacksie.

Mozz - TTT says he's 'here all week' like comedian he is. So let's see what he makes of yours and my posts.

I'm sure he will agree with both of us...

"Here all week"

Which means of he can't debate his way to victory, he'll try for longevity instead.
