"if only we could get the MSM to ignore & not report on these stupid acts, - fat chance!"

The so-called "MSM" is irrevevant in such cases. It gets filmed on someone's phone and it's all over social media

"If they'd just done their speech they'd have made a point whether  you agree with it or not."

it would have been ignored. unfortunately people don't take much notice of speeches and placards anymore

> if only we could get the MSM to ignore & not report on these stupid acts, - fat chance!

Irony klaxon - I first heard about this on this thread ...

Untitled, these morons are alienating people.  That doesn't help their cause.

Trouble is, they get publicity for their 'cause' - they are on the front page of today's Times

well people ignore conventional protest and don't ignore this. unfortunately most people simply don't want to hear about climate change - but they have to.

their goal is not to "win people over" anyway, their goal is to mobilize people who agree with them but don't currently do anything

brainiac, they are in the news but not in a good way.   Even their main sponsor has given up on them.

if you can get around 3.5% of the population to actively do something then you can effect change

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190513-it-only-takes-35-of-people-to-change-the-world

that's their goal. they want to reach the minority of people who might actually do something.

Well I hope they hurry up and meet their goal.  They'd be more influential rallying people to clean up our oceans and beaches and countryside.  They'd get a lot of support for that but instead they're just vandalising, creating disruption to other people's lives and making a complete nuisance of themselves.  No one with any sense thinks that's a good idea.

"They'd be more influential rallying people to clean up our oceans and beaches and countryside"

why don't you do it then naomi? the issue of pollution is certainly important and i would definitely like to see more activism over that issue. but the issue of fossil fuels is extremely serious and cannot be ignored and that is JSO's chosen cause.

Why don't I do what?

rally people to clean up our oceans and beaches and countryside

I do my bit.

"it would have been ignored. unfortunately people don't take much notice of speeches and placards anymore"

Possibly but I hope you aren't suggesting that it was right to commit a violent act just to get noticed.

The suffragettes did it in order to get naomi and all women of the world the right to vote. a noble and just cause which was frequently villified at the time. and the suffragettes went much further than JSO.

Untitled; 10:48. That's a very stupid article you have posted.

Question Author

Untitled; You are putting up some very silly posts. Do you think if the suffragettes hadn't chained themselves to railings & smashed windows women would still not have the vote ?

I don't know khandro. but i struggle to condemn them for doing the things you mention. they made very clear that women would simply not tolerate disenfranchisement.

"That's a very stupid article you have posted."

meaning of course nothing more than you disagree with it
